I'm new to the forum, so would like to say Hi. I have a 2016 F250 XLT 6.2L gasser that I really like. When I bought this one I wanted the Lariat, but I got a pretty good deal on the XLT, so I'm mostly happy with it. But there are two things about my truck that I would love to upgrade. The radio, and the side mirrors. I tow a camper with this truck, and the tiny backup camera in the rear view just doesn't cut it. And I also have to pull my mirrors in every time I park in my garage. So, what I would like to know is how difficult would it be for me to go to a junk yard and find a wrecked Lariat that has the power folding mirrors and radio with the larger screen that I want, remove them and install them in my truck. I read somewhere that you have to re-program some modules in the truck to do this. I'm a computer geek by day, so if I have to, I think I can pick that up without too much difficulty. Would like to know if what I read is true and I can't just install the stuff in my truck and go. Any guidance would be appreciated! If I can get these things upgraded, I would have just about a perfect truck for me. Would love to have the lariat climate controls too since I also have a cold natured wife, but I imagine that would be a much bigger project. Looking forward to spending some time on this forum and learning about my truck and meeting some new friends!
Usually I see the power mirrors online cheaper than what the yard wants. To find them in a u-pull it, forget it, they strip those wayyyyy before it hits the yard. They're like gold and have solid value on the used parts market. Like good, clean leather seats or worse, King Ranch seats. fugetabout it for under 1500 a row if they're rip free.
as far as the mirrors go, I'm sure you can put them in and get them to work. How you integrate the switch is a different story but as long as you get a wiring diagram/ pin out; surely you can figure something out. Can't be too difficult
I've put Lariat heated power seats in my 79 supercab. I have an excursion rear defrost switch hooked up to my 6.0 heated mirrors that are on a timer in my 03 7.3. Anything is possible if you are determined enough
I thought I read somewhere that it wasn't just as simple as putting the Lariat mirrors on and wiring them up with the switch from the Lariat. I thought you had to program some body control module to let the truck know that you now have the different mirrors. That's how you are able to control things like that from a bi-directional scanner is because it is all controlled by the CAN bus now and not just direct wiring power to switch to ground. Am I mistaken??
