So I have hg
ad codes P0304 and P0316 on my 2004 5.4l 2V. I replace the #4 coil, injector and all new plugs and the code keeps coming back. Truck has a mis when started for like 30-60 second and goes away. I did a compression test on #4 and got 160-170psi. Put the scope down and found most of the piston clean as can be. "see photos" I am now guessing I have a head gasket leaking coolant in to #4. What are your thoughts? Thanks
Ok, so now lots of questions and hel needed. I just moved to the Mooresville/Denver NC area. I do not know who to trust to do the job right nor the money. I can do it myself as I have built engines for my classic cars before but nothin this new. I will need to find some one to help as my eyes are failing. I was planning on doing a timing set, water pump and oil pump anyway and started getting parts.
1- What brand timing set to get? I was told to stay away from Melling and Cloyes as there chains are know to break.
2- What brand gasket kit to get?
3- Do I need to bring the heads to a machine shop to be checked out?
4- How big/long of a job will this be and is there anything else to know?
How about a ford timing kit? far as gaskets I stay with Felpro or OEM. Sure wouldent to have the heads checked and perhaps the valves cleaned up while in the shop. Far as how big? I hear you on the newer stuff and when I look at my 99 V10 I ask myself who the dumb *** who engineered this thing. Take pics, bag and label nuts and bolts and plan on a longer than a SB R&R chevy by 100%. Far as shops to trust...I have nothing to offer on that one but you can do it. Just dont get frustrated with things and take your sweet time.
If you've got time to do it yourself, I think go for it. There are enough resources out there now. Standard procedure to bring the heads to machine shop to check them out for straightness and do a valve job. I'd try to find Ford OE parts for everything.
Here's a video series where a guy documents the whole process on a V10.
Thank you guys for the help. I am looking online for the parts. Does Ford still make a full timing kit or just each piece? Do they offer a complete gasket lit for this? Any input for a good source to buy them? I was looking at Freedom Racing and Modular Head Shop, of course would like to get the best price to save but do it right. I have a new Ford water pump, Melling M340HV oil pump and the Melling 3-391SC timing set but will return after being told that Melling and Cloyes chains are known to break. Just want to be ready with parts and do this right. Thanks
