Once is not enough.....

Once is not enough.....
Or.....
Extreme overkill.
I was drivin' a friend around to check her coon traps. As we're drivin' down the road we noticed an older woman pulled to the side of the road, and a buck off in the bush a little ways.
She hit the deer and it was still alive, with all 4 legs busted. Luckily she was ok, and her car had minimal damage.
We noticed the deer was (I think it's called) 'pied' or speckeled (white spots working their way up it's sides). My friend wanted to claim the deer and get it mounted (it was a nice 8 point).
Well, the cops were called. When the cop arrived my friend tried to let him know she'd appreciate it if he'd try to put it down without messing the head up too bad. The cop kinda ignored her, walked up to the deer and took a shot, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another. In all the cop ended up taking 15 shots to "kill" the deer.
We asked him why he shot it so many times. His response was that it kept on moving after he shot it.
Well my friend decided it wasn't worth trying to get the head mounted, so we ended up leaving, laughing to each other about the cop thinkin' that the deer was STILL alive, even after the first few shots with his 9 mm. As close as he was, even using a .22 would have only needed, at the most, two shots.
Just thought I'd pass this funny event of the day along to ya all.
Oh, yeah, there wasn't anything in any of the traps we were checkin'

He could have shot it in the heart, -but then he would have had to know where that was...
Next time maybe ask the officer if he knows where and how to shoot it. Then ask him where, to see if he does actually know. Then an anatomy lesson would be required because I doubt that he would let you use his sidearm to shoot it.

Yeah, a heart shot is the best. If you shoot anything in the head, it will probably kill it, but the body will twitch around for quite a while even after it being dead. A heart shot will slowly suffocate the brain.
I guess the cop watched too many movies when people and animals die instantly from gunshots. Hardley ever the case...

Holy Cow. I would have headed STRAIGHT to the media and thrown an unholy FIT!! . . if I had lived that long.
I (personally) would consider a person carrying a gun that was OBVIOUSLY that clueless as to it's use/effect a direct threat to my personal safety!! One carrying a badge - DOUBLY SO!!
That cop would have had to surrender the gun - or use it on me -before he ever got close to 15 rounds in the deer. I kid you NOT.
(AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!)

I would think at 4-5 ft a cop should be able to hit what he's aimin' at.
