I purchased a Fox 2.0 IFP stabilizer (part #985-24-000) for my 2004 Ford F-250 4wd. Both the Fox website and the 4WheelParts site claim it fits this year of F-250. However I've been unable to make it work. I tried installing the fat end on the same axle-side bracket as the OEM stabilizer, but the other end of the stabilizer is nowhere near being able to attach to the tie rod. The fit is very tight and there's no wiggle room at all to adjust the positioning.
I've attached pictures below, in the pics I have the steering turned all the way to the left in order to determine where to mount the included Fox bracket onto the tie rod. I was going to try using the OEM tie rod bracket but it only fits on the center of the tie rod, the u-bolts won't slip around it on any other location. Even if it did fit, there's still a huge gap between the bracket and the stabilizer mounting point.
I'm hoping someone has faced a similar issue with this stabilizer and has some insights!
I tried searching the forum but the closest post I could find was from 2006 and had some low-res photos along with broken photo links. Thank you
Thanks for checking it out. I can see how installing it the other way around would give me some more room to swivel the stabilizer forward to place it directly underneath the tie rod.
Did you use any other brackets to attach it to the tie rod? Or just the Fox one?
looks backwards compared to mine, skinny end to the axle, fat end to the tierod.
I must have mine installed wrong then. But i'm fairly sure it's correct as the oem has the body mounted to the axle. Apparently they have changed a bit since getting mine in 2018. Mine doesn't have a bracket like the OP. Mine just had a stud to go to the factory plate on the tie rod. Bolt sheered off and i hade to change things up. Mine fits fine on my 03 as the OP has it
I'll have to take a pic of mine and post it.
Looking at his pics, it has to go that way otherwise his mounting bracket wont work. That block will not fit the body side without spacers. Nevermind. It doesn't seem that this is made for the superduty. he will have to reuse the factory tie-rod bracket
Fox goes through great effort to make their logo visible and readable on the final installed product (pretty sure they'd pick logo placement over part function if given the choice). If the logo is upside down, then the part is installed wrong.
...
Just wanted to follow up, flipping the stabilizer around worked perfectly, it lined right up and I was able to use the Fox tie rod bracket. No binding or rubbing when turning lock to lock.
While I give Fox a hard time for their front-and-center logo placement, they do make good stuff and the logo placement can actually help in determining installation configuration every now and then.
…
that's interesting because mine is the other way and the logo is faced correctly. Maybe they revised it, but I also do not have that clamp that bolts to the tie rod. Kind of wish i did though, I like the look more.
