I've had this little guy since April 2004, so I know the maintenance history.
At 191K it has developed a vibration, almost disappears with the engine loaded, and really vibes when coasting down hill. It's rotational, so the faster coasting the worse it is.
First thought was ujoints, nope, not that.
Second thought is the clutch. At first start of the day, the clutch has begun chattering when using, forward or reverse.
Third thought is the rearend. Suspecting that because of the way I can get the vibe by coasting, and the faster I go, the more vibes.
What do you guys say, I haven't dealt with clutch or rearend issues in likely 40 years.
No replies yet, so will see if I can get things started. Lets think about this some more, did this vibration thing begin slowly over time, or suddenly after some event, like a off road excursion, maintenance or repair, at or about the same time the clutch chatter started?
Does this puppy have a one or two piece drive-shaft?

Thanks pawpaw!
It's gotten worse in the last year, slowly over time, new tires made no difference. The clutch chatter has been before the vibration.
One piece driveshaft, I know what you're thinking there, but no center bearing.
I'm hoping it's the clutch, but the part about the vibes getting worse going downhill, has me thinking rearend. Oil was changed in that around 8K or so ago. It's a LSD axle, and modifier was added. Do you think a possibility the clutch pack needs to be replaced? I realize the clutches aren't used except when turning, but I'm grasping at all straws.
The clutch chatter only happens when the vehicle is cold, and upon releasing clutch in both 1st and reverse, then clears up the rest of the day. I'm getting together with a friend, mechanic, and having the clutch replaced, but I'm not sure if the clutch could be causing the vibes.
OK, truck going over to get clutch, slave, and master cylinder changed out if needed. Also have a new shifter bushing going in. I'm still hoping clutch, but we shall see.
Good idea to have the clutch chatter looked into imo, as you know for sure thats a problem now. Will be interesting to hear if they pick up on anything else from the clues you posted so far.
Seems years ago, when I knew something, back lash, too much, or too little could set up vibes like this, Question is, how could the backlash shift, bearing?
I did take the truck out on a dirt road today, and checked out the LSD, both wheels spun the same amount, no grabbing or jerking going around corners either, so I think that eliminates the clutch packs.
Well, truck will done tomorrow or Wednesday morning with another suspect eliminated.
Not bad, got the clutch replaced, flywheel turned, and new shifter bushing put in that I've had on my workbench for a couple years.
Turns out my vibes came from the rear ujoint. Didn't think it was that because a rookie mechnic had loooked and told me the ujoints were good. That's alright, it worked better than tearing into the diff.
Good feedback & to hear all now seems well & your smoothly on the road again, after the guys at the garage helped you kill two birds with one stone, so to speak!!! lol

Thanks, can't wait to pick it up today, and drive WITHOUT those bloody vibes.
