Hi all, new member here - I'm about to purchase a new 4x4 X for my wife and I need to get some larger tires A.S.A.P. Can anyone tell me the absolute largest tire I can put on the stock Limited wheels without any rubbing, please? I was thinking about a 305/75/16, as this is close to a 33/12.50/16, but I need to know if these will fit without a lift. I have 315's on my F250, but I needed a 4 inch lift to get them to clear and my wife doesn't want her truck that high.
Thanks for the speedy reply Monsta, although it wasn't really what I wanted to hear Maybe I'll put some new leafs from an F350 and a block with and inch or so of additional height to get the 305's to fit.
BTW, anyone here try the Whipple on their V-10? Comments? I've considered installing one on my F250, but now my blower money is going to the down-payment on the X. Guess I'd better start saving again!
You see, 305's will fit a SD with minor rubbing but the X sits lower. They may work with some minor trimming.
As for spring replacement, look further down in the forum. I posted a spring replacment chart that another fellow X owner came up with. It will help you decide which spring code to actually get. There are many...
Again, thanks for the quick reply. I DID look at that chart before I posted my initial question, just didn't have any idea how much I would need to lift it, if at all, and my wife REALLY wants the 305's.
Not trying to stir anything up, so please don't take it that way, but what did you mean by: "If I were you....." Verify what?
I would verify that the max tire size is 285's for a stock Excursion. Basically I was doin' the CYA (actually cMa) thing.
I've always thought that you could use the stock tires and take clearance measurements. Say from;
1. Full left lock. Clearance between Left tire and fender / frame & Right tire and fender / frame.
Then take into account the difference in the dimensions of the new tire. If you have 3" of clearance with the stock tires and the NEW tires are 2" bigger than stock, then you would then have 1" of clearance with the new tires.
Does that method work?? Or am I talking out my ****??
I run stock sizes cause I have 3.73's and would rather not lose any get up and go...

Is your **** talking again??????
I would think if you measured from lets say, your tire at lock and your inner fender well and came up with lets say 4 inches of clearance, then you put a 2 inch bigger tire on, you would only realize 1 inch less clearance to that same point.
Tires are round, for every inch you would realize 1/2 inch because the whole tire gets bigger not just one side of the tire.????????
Well - I am looking at getting the biggest tires i can find
put on my stock - non lifted X, so what is the biggest tire
size i can go with the stock wheels ???
Just went to tirerack.com and took a look at the BF Mud-Terrain tires.
So you are telling me that the biggest tire i could stick on my truck - and have
no rubbing - would be a 285/75/16 ???
That would be my educated guess. I imagine that a larger tire, say 305, would have some minor rubbing in certain situations but if just drive on the road and with respect to any rubbing issues, they would work OK.

Who makes a high quality tire in size 285/75-16 with an E Load rating?
