Hi,
I have question on Dana 60 (Monobeam). I have a '89 F-350 crew cab with 150,000 miles.
The front end is on the loose side. What has been your experience on what wears out first. I do not think the problem is in the wheel bearings. Also have check for movement when I have had someone rotate the steering wheel from side to side.
Nothing appears to be loose.
Could the tapered bushing on the upper kinpin be a problem?
Also does some market a "kit" to rebuild the front end? The truck does not have a lot of four wheel miles so I do not think the third member need any work
It sounds like the steering box to me. They are about $200 new but the junkyard may have a low milelage one for less. There is an adjustment on the box, it requires an allen socket and a big wrench. Hold the nut and tighten the allen screw.
Thanks for the imput.
I do not think it is the steering box. It was replaced at 130,000 miles and seems to be tight. Not a lot of movement when you rock the steering wheel back and forth.

It could just be the kingpins are shot then. We just put new ones in my dads 88 club wagon with 260+k on it and it straightemed up the way it drives. Also make sure the the wheel bearings are tight and the kingpin bolts are tight as well.
