I got my hands on a D2 casting block and read on another site that to convert non roller blocks all you need is the factory roller lifters , reduced circle cam, and special length pushrods. does anyone know if this will work? the block is a 351w I'm building to put in my 89 supercoupe
By D2 I will assume you mean 72 351 block. You are correct all you need is to drill and tap two holes to allow the stock spider from an H.O. 5.0 to be installed along with the stock rollers and H- bars, and yes, you will need the reduced base circle cam.
Another option you need none of the above. YOU can get retro-fit rollers that have bars holding two together. YOU use any off the shelf roller cam (which is good if you wanna resale it). this route all you need is the retro roller lifters and that is it except for the cam, drop it in and go. There is a catch, they cost between $299=$399 but they are stronger than the stock design. Some people into racing or so I have read claim that the stock spider roller setup is unstable with the reduced base circle cam. Either way the bar lifters or retrofit ones are stronger by design. Good luck hope this helps some
