Distributer identification
1984 F-250 351W 2bbl 2wd 4 speed manual. I'm trying to identify my distributer. Looks like it might be a duraspark II but I'm just not sure. It doesn't have a vacuum advance module. Has a square coil. Large blue cap.I have digital pictures, but not sure how to insert it into a post.
I'm wanting to loose the Emission control stuff. Looks like the control module reads about 6 sensors and sends a couple of wires to the distributor control module. I assume these 2 wires control the distributer advance, and that the control module also adjust airflow and fuel mixture to the carb. Am I thinking right?
I've unplugged most of the connectors on the sensors and carb. one at a time and it seems to have no effect, at least at an idle.
Seems like most of this plumbing isn't working anyway.
Overall, the engine runs fairly good, just a shade rough on low warm engine idle with the rebuilt carb. Runs great at speed, but to me, seems like it just isn't breathing well enough to make the power I remember from V8's in the past.
I'd like to positivitly identify the distributer in order to determine if an aftermarket ignition (MSD, Jacob ect.) would work by itself or with the control and distributer modules in the circuit.
I'm sure someone on the forum has done this before, how about a little advise!

to insert a picture in your post. right click on the picture cick on properties. a page full of crap will pop up, you will see an address (url) about mid way. triple click on it then hit control "c". when you post put the link in by hitting control "v". then at the beginning of the address that pops up before it put [ img]and [ /img] after it, take the space out of the "[ i" and "[ /" as I had to put it there so it would show up. you have to use a picture that is on the web somewhere, preferrably in your gallery.
Does your distributor/coil have d.u.i. on it? does the cap have the coil on the top of it, like a gm distributor?

Not sure what you mean by D. U. I, but it does not have a coil on top of it, the coil is mounted just below the front of the right valve cover. The distributer has a connector on the front with several wires going to it.
