I'm looking at plenum inserts for both trucks in gathering parts for some other work to be done on them. I noticed there are 2 different types...mainly Riffraff...and wondering which might be better. The shinny units look shorter than the black ones in the pictures, but may not be. Are they basically the same, or is one being a first generation and the other a later upgraded design? Also, if someone has some laying around that wants to part with them, shoot me a PM...
From what I remember @Riffraff Diesel came out with the Plenum Inserts about 12 or so years ago. Then a few years back other starting copying them as well, but from what I have seen they went cheap and didn't want to pay to anodize them. I have installed the bare aluminum ones like you have pictured and they left metal shavings all over my intake plenum and head. Personally I prefer the ones from Riffraff because they install easier with the longer taper and don't leave metal shavings on install.

From what I understand the aluminum colored units are Riffraff, which is why I thought they may have been an early rendition from years ago. They do appear shiny like being polished, cleared, anodized, etc. I just don't like how shallow they are relative to the clamp surface area.
What benefit does anodizing give these simplistic things?
As I mentioned above without the Anodizing, it leaves aluminum shavings everywhere, including inside your plenums. Which makes sense why Riffraff Diesel takes the extra step to do that. I’m sure it cost more money, but it yields a much nicer product in my opinion.
