2004 Transmission Overheating
I believe in the extra cooler and the tow package plus reducing speed helps a lot .
My vehicle made it thru without noticeable damage . I have an aftermarket pan on this one so I can easily change fluid 4-5 quarts at a time over several weeks until 20 quarts or so is flushed , this may not be the best way but it's my way .
The aftermarket pan reduces the mess of dropping a pan . Not a fan of adding a drain to factory pan but it can be done depending on your skills . I would weld one if i did it , it's like the oil change, it depends on how hard its been pushed . Changing is a prevention not a cure .
Cardboard sheets underneath will help mitigate the fluid mess , I just helped my friend change his dually ram with 9 quarts in pan , he could only suck 4 quarts out thru dipstick so it made a mess . Many rolls of paper towels barely cleaned it . We had to put him in the shower and dawn out the garage. Fluid was very brown and had 130k on it with heavy towing . His other truck trans went bad at 30k and looked like it got water in it 4 grand later for a rebuild . So he was very nervous about this work truck .
