I'm not sure if this is the right fourm or not. But, I recently picked up an 84 f150 body on what I think is an 87 f250 4x4 frame. I'm missing some parts, and could use some help figuring out if it is an 87 frame or not.
Specs on the truck.
5.0 efi
AOD transmission
borg warner transfer case
front and rear leaf springs
Has dual gas tank doors only has the front tank
the body has patina, but it is straight, same with the bed. No dents in it at all. I have the bed off and am currently stripping the rust off the frame.
I need a steering column flange, the previous one was drilled out and I am having a hell of a time finding one. If anyone has any leads let me know!
Welcome to FTE.
When you said "steering column flange" I was then seen the picture.
So someone either lost the key or tried to steal the truck.
I would say the cab is a 80 to 86 model based on the dash so I would say you are looking for a 80 to 86 column.
I think you would have better luck looking for a full column than just that part as I dont think a junk yard would want to break it up just for that.
Also why would you want to pull both apart when you can just unbolt them and swap then around.
I think you can use carparts.com to check junk yards for a column.
Also dont know where you are at as that might help if someone has one close to you.

The story is the guy that owned it died and his "Tweaker" friends tried to steal it. I have a clean title that matches the vin on the cab, it's an 84!
I'm in Arizona. I've been calling around to junkyards but so far no luck finding a column or flange. Well. Mostly. I found one 5 miles from me, but it's on hold and I'll know Monday if it's sold or not.
You have a lighter duty f250. They made a f250 and they also made a f250HD. I can tell from the type of rear axle it has, and the regular f250 was the only one that came with a 302 v8.
Does anyone know what this is? Specifically the white connector with the red center? It appears I have the original wiring harness for the 84 in the cab, and the new one in the engine bay. I'm thinking I'm going to have to splice them together
I did not know the 84 used a engine wiring harness?
Or maybe it is because of EFI?
Do you know what computer the truck is using 84 or 87 and if they both used the same type of EFI?
I say this because my 81, non-EFI engine harness is also the main cab harness inside.
The only other harness on my truck plugs into the main just under the brake booster and runs along the frame to the rear.
There is a tail light harness that plugs into the frame harness.

It's the efi computer. So the body has the wiring harness like you described, the harness in the engine bay is the wiring harness for the efi and computer. I'm trying to find some wiring diagrams to know for sure. But I should be able to splice the two harnesses together. The wiring between the two looks extremely similar so it should be a simple process of identifying the wires, cutting off the old connectors, putting new connectors on, and then plugging everything together.
The main giveaway for me that it's two harness is I have three sets of headlight hardware. One is original 84, and the other two are for newer bulbs I can tell by the connectors.
I can tell that the original engine for the body was a carburetor, I can see where the choke used to be in the cab. The throttle is hooked up to the pedal, the brakes are hooked up but the lines have a leak. I got the hood latch hooked up yesterday.
What type of fuel system do you have on the frame and in the tanks? If you have the more modern fuel injection fuel system, then you might get that working. But your 1984 fuel gauge will never work. If you happen to have the older 84 fuel tank and single fuel line, I would not mess with the efi unless you want to convert the fuel system over.
It's the more modern fuel system. Since the dash guage probably can't be modified to work. I'll probably just run a fuel guage on the bottom of the dash
Wait, your saying your 84' 302 has EFI. I believe EFI wasn't until 85'. Can you post a picture of the engine. Maybe add that picture to your first post.
I'll add pictures later. But it's not an 84 engine. It's an 88 engine. The previous owner put an 84 f150 body on and 88 f250 frame and drive train.
So it's an 84 body, bed, and interior
88 frame, drive train, and fuel system.
I have the wiring harness for the 84 in the cab and running into the engine bay.
I have the 88 harness in the engine bay.
I am going to splice the two together so I can keep the original dash and instrument panel. I think it looks better than the 88 dash.
I got the connectors in yesterday, I'm buying a Haynes manual for the wiring diagrams so instead of guessing and matching colors I can trace the wires and match them to the right wires. And the connectors I bought are the snap together ones, they are pretty easy to build. And it'll make working on the harness later easier if I need to. So hopefully the splice job will look somewhat decent and clean when I'm done.
