4R100 issues?
Hello all,
I apologize in advance for the long text…
IN SHORT; I may have screwed over the transmission by changing the fluid… The following text contains the details…
So… evidently I did something dumb, I changed the atf on my truck at 60,000 miles… I assumed because it (the fluid) looked and smelled clean, it was a good idea to change it before it was too late…
•CHANGE PROCESS
—————————————-
•drain fluid in pan, (through plug)
•drop pan,
•remove old filter and o ring,
•clean out pan,
•use hand pump to remove fluid from upper cooler line (I believe the return line).
•reinstall upper flare nut.
•install new oem filter,
•install new gasket (I know they’re reusable but mine was compromised)
•reinstall pan (with proper torque spec and sequence)
•install new oem Mercon V fluid,
I (since changing it) have been experiencing abnormal shifting behavior…
FLUID CHANGED OCT 1 2023 (OEM Mercon V fluid and
Oem motorcraft filter).
Upon changing nothing screamed slipping immediately, rather I would describe it as sluggish… meaning the transmission would rev, but wouldn’t seem to accelerate,
Shifts however were both more firm and smooth,
Now since driving it for a week, (and obsessively checking fluid levels as I am not entirely sure I am perfect with quantity)…
I was finding it difficult to get a good reading but have since scuffed up the dipstick and it reads to me and others to be dead nuts on with quantity…
I would say that the quality of the shift and overall engagement of the transmission is declining… and as of today seeming to slip slightly…

My questions are;
•How do I determine I am 100% experiencing slippage?
•Is the problem coming from torque converter issues?
•If tranny is slipping, is a rebuild a sensible course of action?
•Is a junkyard or preferably a remanned transmission a viable
option?

I apologize again for the length of the text, but sincerely appreciate any and all advice and or suggestions you all may have.
Thank you for your time,
Is it a 4x4 or a 4x2?
Did you use a 4x4 or a 4x2 filter?
Does the OD OFF light flash?
Are there codes stored in the computer, even if the light didn't flash?
Since yours is a 4x4 you probably have the right filter.
