P 0232 DTC

So, changed my filters for oil/air/fuel top and bottom in July.

Original pumps and until now, no problems.

I can hear/feel the primary on the rail run up and it sounds normal.

The truck is in reduced power and sometimes I have a no start until it cools down.

After it starts it runs fine but the wrench symbol remains and it is in limp mode. I cleared DTC's after scan with a Snap on diag scanner.

The wrench remains.

My thought is to pull the frame rail filter, inspect and or replace. I have no leaks visible and everything is tight.

I can still run up to 70 but if I hammer the throttle it will just slowly creep up. Very weak, but as I said, runs out smooth.

Even though my pump runs is it possible it's just weak??

Hate to throw parts at it, but replacing the pump seems to be my only option unless I find something during inspection.

Anyone have this happen and what were your findings?????

Denny

I don’t know have to check it but look into the fuel rail pressure sensor.

Update!

I know to the core what's going on, but my good friend and well respected Diesel mech was my go to so I'm not second guessing or throwing away parts.

Here's the bones. Took the truck in because I know the code means, you have a frame rail pump problem. 157k on the clock, ok. The thing is, it was intermittent. Raised my eyebrows. Is this the truck side or the pump. High circuit led me to the pump.

I handed it off for further review. The pump was actually good, but weak. I starved for fuel. on anything above 2000 rpm.

Here is the nice thing about our trucks. 2008-2010 supers. If you have a problem and just KOEO and don't get an alarm bell. That diagnostic self check means that the truck side is good. If you KOER and get a fault, It's a strap in component. Keep that in mind.

Just an update that no-one gives.

Here's where the straws fall. Truck side was good. Pump still ran with 1.1 volt going back to the ECM. Lift, kinda. Explains why it would suffer in high rpm fuel demand.

In this case, replaced the lift pump but found the signal on the ground side of the pump sending it back to the ECM faulty at low volts. Truck starved. Found the neg to the return of the ECM compromised. Replaced the lead and we're up and running like new.

Was the pump good? No the under volt and overwork took it out. Bench test shows the old pump producing below (well below) specs.

Hope this helps some one.

Nailed!

So the truck side was good, except.....................the neg wire running to the ECM from the pump called the ball. Mind you, it's still truck side.

Major under volt return which would let the pump run but not produce in a demand situation. It starved.

We did replace the pump simply because we don't want to do this twice. I didn't buy it at 600 bucks just to throw parts. If you have a slumber party on a piece for quite a while (undervolted) (unknown how long) , just give it a rest because it will be compromised. Opted to do so.

Long story short, Replaced the neg side harness from the pump to the ECM with new surgically, runs like a top.

Best advise on this repair would be..............if you have red squirrels strolling around, get out your guns. Hope this helps someone in the future.
