1985, f150, 302, efi--falls flat on its face when accellerating under load. revs in neutral just fine--under load acts like no fuel--doesn't happen on cool mornings until it warms up--have tried premium, regular, midgrade--no help--local ford store says maybe in tank pump, maybe fuel filter, maybe hi-pressure frame rail mounted pump--Any help on most likely problem greatly appreciated before i spend more than the truck is worth.

Sounds like it could be a bad fuel pump. Try replacing your filter first, and if that doesn't help get a fuel presure gauge to check your pump. Af friend had the same kind of problem on a ranger and it was the fuel pump.

I don't know how the fuel set-up is on the 85 full-size, but on my 86 Ranger 2.3, I had basically the same problem, run fine up until you mash it, but falls on face then, and max speed was 60 if you were lucky. Tried new fuel pump, fuel filter, Gumout Xtra injector cleaner, nothing helped. I did discover after checking a couple manuals that there is an accumulator in the system, and mine had a pleated element filter in the bottom, which you screwed off using a large oil filter band wrench. After dumping the sand and a new filter, it ran fine, and has since! Check for this on yours. It is mounted on the frame rail, mine was inline between the tank and the high psi pump.
