I can see that the difference isn’t that big between the two trims, what are people’s reasons or logic behind selecting to order one trim over the other.
like many I’m not a fan of the chrome Platinum appliqué but have heard there’s a leather difference that’s noticeable and the tailgate down camera is handy I guess (if loading deck approach is considered).
What else drove folks purchase selection? Wonder if I’m not considering everything vs the notable price difference between the two.
Thank you.
Asked myself this when I ordered, and it boiled down to wanting the best chance of getting scheduled. Lariats are far more likely to get scheduled (as of now mine is anyway, with a VIN). I think you'd need to wait longer for a Platinum.
From having had 4 platinums 19-22 now a 23 lariat… get the platinum, the seats alone are worth it the lariat seat are a big step down and seem like they are vinyl… maybe synthetic cow lol.
My understanding, in my MY 2021, is the seat massagers (and badging) were the primary differences between LU and Platinum. I was very fortunate to find my Lariat Ultimate F350 on the lot with every option I wanted. I don't care about the Platinum grill or tailgate or the butt massagers.
I think it would depend on how you plan to option the Lariat. They can be optioned out to where the price jump of a Platinum isn't all that much. If cost is of no concern, than a Platinum it would be. Not really a fan of the tailgate plaque, but the upgraded interior, as well as the exterior features that the Lariat doesn't have would be a reason.

This was it for me as well. With Granger's deal I was ready to talk myself into a Platinum but I was already expecting to wait 6-8 months for a Lariat so that's what I chose. Now that I'm already scheduled for the middle of the month I'm questioning if I should have upgraded but I know I will be happy with what I've ordered anyways so meh.
It is roughly a $8500 price difference. That isn't exactly chump change. I went with a Lariat Ultimate.
$236 a month for 3 years, pricey
I just built identical 2024 F-450s on the Ford website. If you really build them as close as you can with options the apples to apples price difference was $5920. After that the 2 differences I see on the build sheets are the "Unique Platinum Multicontour Driver and Passenger Leather Seating Surfaces" vs the Lariat leather and the sound system descriptions "B&O® Unleashed Sound System by Bang & Olufsen® with HD Radio™ (14 Speakers Including Subwoofer)" vs "B&O® Sound System by Bang & Olufsen® with HD Radio™." I don't know if that means there some actual difference in stereo quality or if they are the same. Neither trim has the max recline seats as standard, but can be added to both for another $335.
The Platinum gets a couple more pricy options ($1600) that are standard now over being an option on the Lariat: 2kW Pro Power and Onboard Scales with Smart hitch. So if you don't care about those things more reason to get a Lariat. I do like the multicontour seats with the thicker leather in my older Platinum. Really nice on long road trips, but I don't think I would spend the money for the Pro Power unit now.
I currently have a Platinum, my previous truck was an F-150 Platinum. The Seats were the #1 reason I went to Platinum. I voted Lariat Ultimate, and here's why. the Multicontour seats in the F-150 worked very well. The leather felt better too. The same cannot be said on the F-450. I hardly use the massage anymore because they don't do half of what the F-150 did. Now I don't know if there is something different between them as the seats look identical, but there is a difference.
If I were to replace the F-450 I would go Lariat and buy a set of Katzkins. The lariat seats are not comfortable due to where the piping is, but the covers are easy to replace. Everything else on the Platinum I use is available on the Lariat.
It really comes down to what you are willing to pay or can afford and what options you want. I have a 2017 Lariat Ultimate and it has all the options I wanted. I priced out a 2023 and would likely go with a Lariat w/o the Ultimate or go up a model . The way options are bundled now seem to force into getting more than you want and paying more. If the seat comfort is not acceptable in one trim and different trim level is more comfortable and within budget I see going for it. Otherwise we would all be driving XLs.
