I am going on oil change number 16 with my '22 7.3 I have used mostly the Motorcraft 820 but dabbled with a few Baldwins and a few Ford Motorsports version of the 820. Never had one stick on this truck. If you are changing your own oil, checking the o-ring is standard but, thanks for the warning I guess.
To help prevent the rubber gasket from sticking to the housing face is real simple! Before you install the new oil filter rub some grease onto the gasket. This prevents the gasket from sticking. Never had a gasket stick on any filter when I have done this, almost 60 years of changing my own filters.

I always use the engine oil, especially easy after pre-filling the filter, there is always oil right there to put on the gasket.
I can't remember the last time I had one stick to the oil filter pad, but always check, just the way I was trained, and common sense to boot.

I can agree with this.
Also if you are paying attention the filter will only go on about 1 1/2 turns instead of the normal 4 to 5 turns.
I have caught it that way before.First impulse is “wrong filter and threaded wrong “ check filter and it looks right, look up at filter housing and see the old gasket. Duh

I've used just about every brand filter you can buy at any auto store and have never had a gasket stick on any of my vehicles. I guess I've just been lucky as I've never checked the block but likely would if I noticed the oil filter gasket looked like something was wrong. If you've had it happen on three in a row now I'd lean more toward install or uninstall error and if you've really been that unlucky to get 3 bad ones in a row you should go buy a lottery ticket as you're due to have a change of luck. I do pre-oil my gasket before installing, so maybe that's a key to the gasket not sticking maybe?

What bad luck ? It's just an oil filter and takes 1 second to reach up and grab the O-ring.
Install and uninstall error ? 😳

I was just saying it doesn't seem all that common, although not real uncommon, for an o ring to stick, if it's happening every oil change that would make me scratch my head. Maybe you just got a bad batch of filters perhaps? Once again it's no biggie but something I've yet to experience changing the oil on multiple vehicles over the years.
About 45 years ago, I learned the hard way to always make sure the gasket comes off and make sure the surface the gasket contacts is clean. Takes less than a minute to dump 5 quarts on the garage floor.
ditto, can pump 5L into the sump of a boat really quickly too if you miss the stuck old seal.
Whenever doing oil/filter changes, I always use a rag to wipe the area where the oil filter attaches (was taught this way 50 years ago). It will be obvious while doing this if the old gasket is still there or not. I've only had one oil filter gasket left there over the years while performing the oil changes.

Just wanted to let some unsuspecting folks know that Motor craft oil filters must be inspected upon removal on the Super duty trucks.......the filter gasket sticks to the housing.
I changed oil for the 3rd time today on a 2021 F250 7.3 gas and all 3 times the rubber gasket stuck.
Yes been changing oil for 50 years and know that pre-lubing is required.
I'm in know way questioning the quality of Motor craft oil filters, simply trying to help someone avoid a big mess.
Simply remove the filter, shine a light and pull the old gasket off the housing, install new filter.
Only 3 times have I had the gasket come off and all 3 times it was because I wanted it off for some other reasons. As such, I am skeptical about your experience. With 3 in a row. Are you sure your mating surface is not rough cause it to somehow strip off? This is with Motorcraft, AC Delco, K&N, you name it, over the years and even a couple of real cheap crap ones. I'll go along with 1 but not 3. I get a feeling it is being stripped off and the only thing I can think off is you are using an impact wrench or someone is screwing with you. Have you pissed off any witch doctors, voodoo queens, etc?
