Howdy folks,
I have an '02 PSD Limited Ultimate and was interested in a remote starter (alarm) that was compatible with the PSD.
Does anyone have one installed, and if so, how does the unit "know" when the engine is ready to be turned over (ie. glow plugs off)?
I like the idea, especially since my PSD hates running cold, of starting this puppy up while I am still getting ready for work.
Also, apparently our trucks have a "chipped" ignition key, how does this system bypass this, and how do you "add" your key to the ignition after remote starting?
BTW, just finished my install of DVD/navigation and XM radio using existing stereo....VERY nice
I have a Alpine remote start/alarm system on my 2002 Excursion PSD.
Their is just a seprate wire that needs to be hooked up that senses when the glow plugs are warmed up. Actually any alarm can be wired to work with the PSD. Just do some research with different installers and you should be fine...
The chipped key is not bypassed. The installer will need your spare chipped key and will mount it in a fixture inside the dash so that it will start. You will not have access to the spare key.
I have a remote start on my PSD, a company called compustar makes it, it waits for the glow plugs to go out, works good. E-mail me back if you need help fiding them.

Sounds like we have similar trucks... I hunted all over until I found a No Boundaries Black 4x4 PSD... When I did, the dealer already had the pillar gauges installed.. they are pretty cool.
ogbigdad,
I'd be very interested in the details of your unit. Where can get it, how much and who did you have install it?
I paid $550 installed. This alarm pages you when your truck gets "messed with" and also verifys the status of your truck, so you never have to guess if your truck actually received the signal. (it has up to a mile range) The place that put mine in is called Stereo Town, they are in Sioux City IA, they would know where to send you. The # is 712-277-1223. Best of luck to you.
