guys I cannot find this anywhere. Can anyone tell me the bolt size for the timing pointer? There are two bolts (see picture). I tried 3/8 and 7/16, could it be 10mm?? Didn’t have a bolt that size.
I see the holes in bracket appear to be two different sizes.
Those go into the block, so they will be standard thread. That's the rule on these old trucks, if it goes in the engine block it is standard. If it goes into a external bracket it most likely is metric.
FWIW, When I replaced the negative battery cable, I had to open up both boltholes in the new cable to fit the Ford bolt for the chassis ground tab and fit over the studs on the block. So you may need to open the holes a bit...?
Is this a new to you part or did it come off of your engine?
SBF have had three locations for timing pointers and your pictured pointer looks different than the one JBG shows for 80 and up SBF https://shop.broncograveyard.com/Tim...uctinfo/30710/
It looks like your timing cover has a plugged dipstick tube hole. I have always thought (but not entirely sure of) truck dipsticks went through the drivers side oil pan and cars with front sump oil pans had timing cover dipsticks.
So you might already be dealing with mismatched parts
You might need to do some homework on what your parts are or came off of so you can get the right timing pointer in relation to the harmonic balancer that is installed.
My 1976 351w has timing marks and pointer on the drivers side at about the 2 oclock position
I would start by locating cyl. 1 @ TDC and seeing if the timing marks on balancer are on drivers or passengers side.
