The nose on my truck came off this parts truck I bought at the same time and it had trim on it.
That is what I had to do, weld up all the holes

I really like my wheel well chrome trim. Looks good plus adds protection of the body around the wheel well from pitting. Replacements still available for 25 to 30 bucks each.
Of course I have all midnight blue metal flake with a double pin stripe. No two tone.
Nice job fuzz, I’m just an ok welder did you fill the holes with the wire feed or did you cut out little circles from sheet metal?
Filled it in with wire feed.
If you can get behind where the holes are you can use a copper spoon.
I used thick copper sheet where I could and that was not a lot of places.
Also IIRC there were studs that clips fit on that I ground down.

Dave I just got a fuel tank and sending unit. I have an f350 with a mechanical fuel pump, so it’s just a sending unit. The directions don’t say anything about what to put on the end. This doesn’t seem right to install it like this.

You have the sending unit there for the trucks that had the fuel pump in the tank. You can see the large wide clamp section that holds the pump in place. You will also see you have extra wiring connections on the plug and your original plug will probably not fit.
You said you have the mechanical pump. Is it a pump with 3 ports and has a return system? You can see your sending unit also has two hook ups, a supply line and a return. They did make mechanical pumps with the return system.
I figured they used the same sending unit for the electric fuel pump because that’s the only one I can find. I’m going to call spectra tomorrow to see if I need to add something on it. I made a mistake when I was taking the truck apart I threw the old one away. Thanks

I have a question about the fuel return systems with the mechanical pump. Does the pump itself have three ports? One suction, one to the carb and one to the fuel tank return? Or does it use the standard mechanical pump with 2 ports, then the fuel line splits before the carb with one of those going to the return?
It seems to me that if the pump has to feed the carb at certain pressure and flow if it also pushes fuel back to the tank that pressure and flow at the carb would be reduced. Perhaps there is a spring loaded valve which only sends fuel to the tank at low demand at the carb, ie at idle?

The 3 ports are on the fuel pump. If you can make it out, two of the ports are hose bibbs and the one in the middle is the flare fitting for the hard line going to the carb.

Believe me, it's not going to work like it is. How are you going to hook it up electrically? Your wiring plug will not work. See the black and the red wire? They are for the electric pump.
What type of mechanical fuel pump do you have? A 2 port or a 3 port pump?
I am assuming you bought a new tank for a 1984-up truck? That would have the larger sending unit hole in the tank.
This sending unit here is more like what you need if you have a 2 port pump. You need to pick a 1985-86 f150 with a 351w or a 300 six.
