Backup Camera Possessed

Hi all. I think the backup up camera on my Super Duty is possessed !!. Any ideas on how to perform an exorcist before I take it to the dealer ??

Truck details: 2017 F350 Lariat with 42,000 miles, tailgate backup camera only......not 360.

So, I could not a video to post. This is what it looks like, but “pulses”.

Was it hot outside?

My CHMSL camera did this once when it was over 100F out and parked with the camera in direct sunlight.

No, the temperatures have been in the
50s-70s the last few weeks.

My CHMSL camera looked like that once. Not hot (59f) at all but had been raining for several days. Not as bad as the OP.

Kids these days and their hallucinogens. Seriously, I'd take it to a dealer. The camera might be on recall

Mine (also17) has been acting up for a couple years. The picture won’t always be the same exact issue and sometimes it conks out completely. The next time I put it in reverse it will be perfect! It may go for quite a while and not act up. I also thought it might be the heat, which it seems to act up more in the summer but it has done it in cooler temperatures also.

I wondered if it might be a connection. I’m not sure if moving the shifter is specifically what turns it on or if there’s a switch or electrical sensor or module for it.

There are some backup camera recalls for the SD, mine doesn’t seem to have one at least not yet. I’ve read some threads on here where owners have replaced it themselves with OEM or aftermarket, it didn’t sound too difficult.

On my 15 the wiring connections were corroded but that was discovered only after the dealer replaced the camera twice. Yes intermittent bizarre images, then “see dealer,” then completely blank.

Thanks for all of the ideas.

Surprisingly, the camera began working correctly today………go figure. If it happens again I will check the electrical connections, and also check to see if my truck camera is on the recall list.

Thanks all !!

Yeah mine kept working more than it didn’t so I quit worrying about it. Like I mentioned before most of the time it would work again the next time it was put in reverse.

Might as well check and have it done today. It took me a while since it was on recall but they didn't have parts.

Mine would act up whenever it was raining. Dealer found a bad pin in one of the connections in the harness.

Odd. Only when raining but not in a car wash?

I don’t do car washes in my truck. Don’t trust them.
