OK.....tried what you suggested this morning and the CE light does not show. Took her for a drive...put the pedal to the floor pushing the RPMs up to 5000. Still no light. Turned her off and let her set a few minutes and restarted her.....still no light. I also reseated some of the other sensor connections that I read about. Still no light. THanks for the tip. I'll keep you posted!!!
It turned out to be carbon buildup in the EGR Ports. The local Ford dealer wanted $500.00 to fix it. I have a 1998 4.6L F150 112,000 miles. The EGR is attatched to a 90 Degree throat between the throttle body and the intake manafold. Remove the throat (15 Mins.) and look for carbon inside the throat at the ports leading to the EGR. Remove the EGR and use a drill bit By HAND to clean out the carbon in the ports. That fixed it total cost $12.00 for two gaskets. It took about an hour.
The EGR throat is on the intake elbow (see the pic above). This is definitely a good idea to do. I would give myself a couple of hours to do it - labor time of getting it on and off, then clean time.
I clean mine with q-tips and carb cleaner. Then I take the Dremel and get any of the harder carbon off. I do the entire intake elbow, not just the EGR throat...
