Window crank easy going up, crazy binding down
anything obvious I should check?
Not an expert myself, but I’ve seen this action on windows before.
In my case, most of the older windows had the opposite reaction. Easy going down, and hard going back up.
I’ve always assumed that it was simply the regulator spring binding, but I have no real idea. It might be the window channel rollers themselves, that are worn out and binding up only in one direction.
At the very least, though, I would open up the door, panel and lubricate, both the center crank stud, and the coil spring/clock spring of the regulator. Lube the lower channel too.
That would at least tell you if it’s a lubrication issue .
So with door panel off, look inside at the division bar seal #21546 and the seal #21536 at the back of the door. Are those seal tight in the track? Next roll window up and down and see if you can spot a binding point. Does the window twist or rock crooked in the tracks and bind up? Is so, I bet seals are toast.
The kit I got and got along with just fine. https://shop.broncograveyard.com/197...uctinfo/26065/
Now before I would lube the regulator, I would clean it with some spray brake cleaner and see if it is gummed up. Then spray it with some white lithium grease. Then lube the metal trac at the bottom where the roller moves. Also check the roller #262A32, also check it for flat spots. Now if you do need to replace the regulator and it is riveted in, no worries drill them out, get the new regulator and bolt/nut it back in.
In case you really have to tear into stuff, here is the rest of the door parts.
And....And once you fix it, go the HELP section at most auto part stores and get the GM (Xmas tree looking) push pins. They are longer and have a bigger head than the Ford ones. Use them to replace the metal mounts clips, if you had them, or the now used Ford push pins.
