I recently purchased a E350 Super Duty XLT. Two weeks after I purchased it the rear brakes started to grind. I ordered new brake pads, calipers and rotors. I have triple checked that I purchased the correct parts. Here's the problem. The new rotors will not go on over the parking brake shoes. I have tried adjusting the screw all the way in for the emergency brake shoes and still no luck. Every mechanic I've talked to thinks I'm crazy but none of them have an answer. The old rotors are 1/8th inch smaller where the emergency brake would touch the rotor but I suspect this is due to the brake shoes grinding them down. Help and thank you.
Did you also replace the park brake shoes? Also note, it is possible that you have knocked the park brake shoes off center, meaning they arent lined up centered with the back of the rotor. Have someone else slide the rotor on the spindle while you watch to see if the park brake shoes are even lined up centered with the back of the rotor. Unless you replaced the park brake shoes with incorrect parts they should fit inside your new rotors.
I purchased the rotors from Detroit Axel. They did send the wrong ones first so we made sure that they sent the correct ones. The old rotors go on but they they have been ground down 1/8th inch due to the rotors touching the parking brake shoes. Either someone drove with the emergency brake on or there is something wrong with the emergency brake shoes. That's only my novice opinion.
I did check that the parking brake was not on. I also checked that the parking brake was not partially on and that the foot pedal did not partially stick.I had that problem with my E-250 van. I even tried to set the brake and release it with the rotor off in order to make sure that the brake shoes were moving. I will check to make sure that the shoes aren't off center. Thank you for the advice.
Is it possible that the cable is adjusted wrong so that the shoes stay partially engaged? This is a new purchase and the inside of the old rotors are ground down 1/8th inch. I double checked that the emergency brake foot pedal was completely released.
I can imagine it but I'm not that dense. I think that the parking brake is improperly adjusted and that the emergency brake shoes have ground down the rotor. I've talked to two mechanics and multiple people online and while everyone states the obvious, the rotors will will not fit. It's not something that takes an advanced degree in brake technology to understand but I don't get a lot of solutions. Instead I get comments that don't further my quest for an answer.

You state that the old rotors still go on. If the old rotors will sttill go on then you have the wrong rotors. There is no way that your rotors are ground down an 1/8th of an inch on the outside edge of the drum inside of the rotor. The shoes dont sit at the outside edge, they sit inboard and would leave a lip on the outside edge the same diameter as the drum was when it was new. The same holds true with the rotor surface where the brake pads contact the rotor. As it wears it leaves a lip on the outer edge of the rotor thats always rusty because the pads dont even touch that portion of the rotor. If you cant figure it out and expect more help then post the part numbers for your new rotors and the model year for your van instead of just saying i bought an E350 and the park brake went bad and now my new rotors dont fit. List any and ALL parts you replaced along with the part numbers and manufacturer you replaced them with. If you expect a definitive answer then start providing some definitive details.
