I'll ask this here. Feel free to move this thread if it's in the wrong place.
My girlfriend has a 2004 Yamaha Bruin that the rear brake is not performing like it should. I took the back wheel and drum off yesterday and everything looked good. The shoes have plenty of lining on them and the drum was not scored or greasy. In fact, the brake shoe area was very clean, other than normal brake dust. I blew the dust and dirt away with compressed air and sprayed the drum with brake cleaner. Then I lightly sanded the brake shoes and drum, just to roughen them up slightly. I blew everything off with air and reassembled. The brake still doesn't stop the machine as fast as I think it should. My Honda will lock the rear wheels.
Anyone have suggestions, other than new brake shoes? These really have a lot of life left in them and I would love to use them longer if I could. If it needs new shoes...I'll get them.

All that checks out 85e...I can adjust the brake to where it will put a slight drag on the drum, and it still won't stop like it should, rear brake alone. I may just buy new brake shoes and have the drum turned, even though there is no signs of scoring or wear.
Thanks for the reply...you too fordfan.

It may be that kind of animal. I bought two new Arctic Cats about a year and half ago and the directions said to burn them in. I did this but they aren't much good. The bike on the whole is excelenant but in a ATV group there was also complaints about the foot brake. The machines are in for the last chance warrantee checkup. I'll let you know if there is a fix for foot brake problems..It sounds like they're basically the same..
