New Question - passenger side window motor seems to be kaput. The window went down yesterday afternoon and refuses to
go back up. I hear a click in the door when I press the up / down button but a no go.
Any ideas on what could be the problem and how to fix. Is it an easy fix and can I find the part or I take it to my neighborhood shop.
Thanks.
They are somewhat easy to fix. When you order the motor make sure you order some extra of the push on clips. When you remove the door panel these clips sometimes tear. The motor mounts inside the door mounting with 3 bolts and you will have to drill out holes on the interior sheet metal to get access to the 2 bottom/side mounting bolts once the interior plastic pnl is removed of course. These holes should be no large than 3/8 to 1/2 inch. It's pretty easy. Just a little measuring and you can even use the new motor holes as a template. Unless this motor has been replaced before then the holes should be there. Once you unbolt the motor disconnect the wiring harness and reach inside the door behind the sheet metal paneling. Which the continuity with a meter to confirm the switch actually works. Also, take some PB Blaster or wd40 and spray the inside armature joints really thoroughly. These motor burn up from the hardware seizing up.
getting the plastic door pnl off is a little tricky with the window seal. Take a flat screw driver to peel the seal back on one end and work your way toward the door lock area on the panel.
I just did my rear door last weekend on my crew cab. Both my rear windows weren't working. I think I bought the motors and some clips from CP addict. It turned out that only the passenger rear window motor needs to be replaced. But I've replaced the driver side anyways. The driver side armature connections or joints were seized up. I sprayed the both armature joints inside both doors with PB blaster.
The sheet metal on the door should be marked with 3 dimples that line up with the motor mounting bolts. I think I used a 1/2 inch bit to drill the holes to access the motor bolts.
It's weird, but for me the rear door at least didn't have the dimples. Maybe the front 2 doors did? I can't remember if my 87 idi had the dimples, possibly, maybe they had rivets. ?

I should have stated the dimples are on the front doors. I haven't had to replace a motor on the rears. I assumed the rears would have them also.
