as i was crawling around under my truck yesterday, i noticed that it doesn't have a jack. did these trucks come with one originally? or was it an option?
what are you guys using? and, where do you store it?
I think some had a jack mounted on the engine compartment apron. I don't recall for sure, however, I believe it was in the shape of a bottle jack, though probably not hydraulic. Either way, I would get something solid. It will have to have some travel in order to engage the frame, axle, I beam or suspension. For something compact I would consider an oversize bottle jack, like those used in a press. For convenience and safety, I would consider a floor jack in a plastic carrying case.
back in 1980, i owned a 1971 f100. i think it was called a camper special. someone told me at the time that it simply had an extra leaf in the rear springs. anyway, i seem to remember a jack on the fender well in the engine bay. i gotta research what i want to use for a jack and get it and carry it with me.
I may be wrong, but a Camper Special had a longer wheel base. Maybe longer than a long bed wheel base?? I always remembered seeing the front of the bed to the wheel opening being long and the wheel to tail lights was short. So maybe it was just a long wheel base not extra long?
Mine was found in the side compartment of my camper special. It looks like this. I used it once. The next owner will get a warning. It crunches and grinds.

Hmmmm...I know what you're talking about with the longer wheelbase, but I don't remember mine being a longer wheelbase than any other 8' bed truck. I do remember the rough ride when it wasn't loaded.
This is a bit embarrassing, but I forgot that my current '66 is a camper special!
Thanks for the picture. I bought those same wheels but mine are black. I still can't decide if I made the right decision. Mine is a 64 Camper Special. I also had to get a back bumper and wish I found one like yours. That truck looks real good!

Soak it in some ATF/ Acetone for awhile, then work it. I’ll bet it’ll come back to life.

That’ll clean up nicely. Got a grandson that owes you?. Dangle the carrot of possible future ownership of the truck in front of him, he’ll get right on it.
Afterwards, does it get lubed somehow? I saw no zerk?
I don't know if there’s any proper procedure, but I’d lightly oil it. Try to get out as much dirt and rust as you can, then keep it clean after oiling it. It’s worth a try.
that picture was taken the day i brought it home this past may. the old fella is the p.o. the truck is in remarkable shape seeing as how it sat for a while. the registration is 9 years old, but the mailman told me the truck hasn't moved for 20 years. it was about 15 houses away from me. i'm not in love with the rear bumper. its gonna go asap. if anyone lives near denver, its free if you pick it up.
and, no, i'm not a grandad. no one to leave it to when i go.
