I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything but you guys seem to be ok with your trucks sounding like a 3 cylinder diesel at idle.
Can I ask why?
Not me. It drives me crazy. My truck also does the "drive line" clunk that I hate as well. I have spent MANY hours researching both issues with no success. It's the first truck I've bought in 8 years. It's paid for, runs strong, performs well and I'm just hoping someday I figure out the problems. I DO NOT believe it's a reliability/durability issue, just an annoyance. Even though I'm not a fan of loud exhaust, I'm considering making my exhaust louder to mask some of the annoying sounds my truck makes.

Drive line clunk sounds like a drive shaft needs greasing. Having a louder exhaust in the rear doesn't seem like it would mask idle sound in the front but if it works for you..... louder sound system in the cab seems like it would be better.

I greased rear slip yoke twice and the front one once using the Ford specified lube. At first I thought it fixed the problem, but didn't. Was weird that it seemed to go away for a few days though. Yeah, loud exhaust is a long shot, intended to cover up clunking noise more then the knocking noise. As I've gotten older I've noticed I like to drive in silence more. I used to always have to listen to music while driving.
Klunking and rattling noises can drive one batty. If there are coins down in my cup holders and a drink is placed on top of them it will rattle just a little. And at the next red light I'm digging them out and putting them in my pocket. RIght now I have the 5th wheel hitch in the bed and it sometimes klunks back and forth over bumps and stop/starts. I'll be trying it down with a bungee.
A constant engine noise like that would leave me in a serious bad mood. Hopefully you'll get it figured out.
