I’m toying with the idea of going from SRW to DRW since I’m towing a 5th wheel camper now…. I just spent a bunch of money rebuilding most of my front axle so I’d like to keep it in the truck, but grab a dually axle out of a newer F350 is possible to get rear disc brakes…. Is that doable? Who’s done it?
if I had to I’d use a OBS dually axle, regardless I’d like to keep my refreshed Dana 60 front.
This was originally srw, it just has spacers and dually wheels. If I ever get all the mechanical stuff worked out it’s going back to srw.
It has drum brakes on back.

which rear axle you got a sterling? Or is it a Dana?

The easiest way to go dually, is to get an OBS axle from a dual wheeled truck that left the factory with a pickup box installed. It is a direct bolt on, but it will have drum brakes. An axle from a cab &chassis truck will not work as they are to narrow. Salvage yards have them listed for under a $1000 depending in what part of the country you are in. You can use the D60 you have now, just need the factory dually hubs to run the dually rims on the front. Early 2000s E series used a Dana rear axle that had disc brakes, but I have no knowledge if they would be a direct bolt on. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
Picked up the truck that’ll be used for the dually conversion, gonna make the 2wd a SRW and it’ll be my wife’s truck. Not bad for 4,800$ I don’t think. Drove it 100 miles home last night.
