An elderly gentleman sold me 2 classic cars in 2019 that he bought new. At the time he had a 1960 F100 that he also bought new and although moving into a nursing home at the time he mentioned he would contact me when ready to sell the truck. Got the call this week and went to look at it. Curious about the Ford history of the stars on the dash and also the Spare tire has a hubcap with that similar star. Seems like all the 1960 Ford F100's had the stars. Some locals here recalled the star on the Mercury's back in the day. Still negotiating and getting the truck checked out so won't be posting pics at this time.
Welcome to FTE. If I recall, the stars were not a model designation, or anything like that. More like a marketing ploy. Ford had used it before, in the F-1 trucks for example. Then, it denoted a "5 star" cab. It came with a couple extras, over the more plain jane option.
