See the hole? I can't get into my really excellent mechanic for a month, and went to another repair place who held my truck captive for 7 working days and never bothered to call me or fix this. So I brought the truck home. It is a 2000 F250 Super Duty. The leak leaves a spot on the ground of about an inch diameter after driving about 8 miles. I need the truck to haul water for the household; can I try to plug this up somehow until it can get fixed ?
There is a drain tube from the valley of the engine to the back of the block that drains anything from the valley down the black of the block to come out of that hole. The rear seal very rarely leaks so I'll bet your leak is on the topside of your engine. Please don't plug that hole, you'll have bigger problems.
If so don't do anything. Your rear main seal or front pump seal is leaking, but plugging the hole will do ZERO good
Thanks for quick reply...I am so clueless I didn't know what that thing with the hole in it actually was. So that makes sense that something somewhere is leaking, and it is just collecting there. The inspection report the rude and apparently work-adverse mechanics wrote up shows "fuel leak/steel return lines, ICP sensor,IPR sensor, oil separator o rings,HPOP o rings". When I appeared at the shop to try to find out what was going on, I reminded them the truck had been there for 7 working days and only one problem (unrelated to the leak) had been fixed. To that, the one guy replied "And it will be here a lot longer". So when I told them I was taking the truck out, they would not speak to me at all except to write up the bill for the work already done. So that left me double-clueless.....

Thanks for answer....I now realize that that something else is leaking, not that thing with the hole in it....I hadn't thought of that.
We are in Ignacio, way southwest. We have an excellent mechanic (I call him a "car doctor"), but he is always super busy and the first opening he has is Oct. 26. We use the truck only for hauling water and firewood and can hold off awhile for the wood. So are being super careful with water usage. We have cars, so are not totally stuck.

Wow my wife was born there, well really born in Durango hospital but they lived in Ignacio at the time.
One good thing about these engines is they will shut off if the oil gets low before something really goes bad, I know that for a fact lol
I'm sure you will be fine for a while.
Hey, WWR, thanks for that suggestion ! I was unaware of that shop. The nasty shop is Village Auto in the Tech Center. We had been there several years ago, and had excellent service but the guy we dealt with back then was not there this time; 2 entirely different guys. The rudeness didn't bother me as much as the fact they had no intention of working on the truck, apparently. They hadn't ordered parts or anything. All they did in the 7 work days they had it was an initial inspection, and fixed the problem I brought it in for; shifting problem. That was fixed by replacing 2 missing bolts....that was it. At first they told me it would be 3-4 days, then they said 1-2 weeks.....I don't think so ..........

You could also try Built to Last on Hwy 3 (the old Lon's location)....they're "ok" but Windsor is likely a better choice.
Also a couple Ford techs from Dgo Motor Co took over the old Basin Towing right at the S end of Hwy 3.....I've heard good things. Dunno if they're any good with the older diesels
Sorry to subject the forum to all this but OP has elected not to receive PM's
