I had a Thursday tour of Pigeon Forge on both what would have been the week before Shades of the Past and again for the Rod Run. I went in this past week and was disappointed on the 4 or 5 F100s I saw leading up to this weekend's Supernationals. It's not what it used to be. The only major participation I had this year was riding through the Jeep Invasion. I've heard estimates of 40,000 Jeeps here in the Smokies. I don't know about any other events close by.
Pigeon Forge business is wanting all the rod runs stopped, it blocks all their parking, they lose a lot of money, I've not gone due to parking, Jeeps belong at Windrock. I just got my van back, the cost of repairs has made it where I can't afford to go to the van run in North Carolina next week, another year I miss, wish all the work was obvious, body work where it would look good, my struggle has been keeping it running, my mechanic is tired of looking at it, next year I hope to have it at some events, may have to paint it myself from cans, I think there are a few more cruises at Foothills Mall here before it drops off till next April.
I always hear that on Facebook and other places about the Pigeon Forge trying to run off the car shows. The traffic is horrendous. I guess the next thing they'll want to call off is July 4th. That traffic is worse. I'll bet the restaurants and hotels have a different idea. And I've got to believe even the t-shirt and old time photo shops to better with a car show in September than they would without that crowd in town. A town like Newport would love this crowd.
Police make a killing, play your radio loud and boom, you get a ticket, more like that, so I avoid the area, traffic and patrols would get me, the area is a tourist trap, but has been getting worse, Buckees in Seveirville had a line of cars backed up the interstate opening day, I want to go check it out.
I thought Ford fest found a convention center, the F100 event, I may look into going there next year.
I think when the Supernationals came back to PF this last time it was at the Sevierville Convention Center. Only time I went there was to drop off a dentside fender I had for sale. It seemed to have a nice crowd. This year it moved to the LeConte Center in PF. Why I don't know. That place screwed them years ago had it moved from Spring to Fall. The Fall schedule puts it in conflict with the Crusin' the Coast in Mississippi. That's a huge venue.
I'd like to enter the nationals, my junk needs to be dependable before I can plan on leaving the house, need to head over to Cherokee NC, the van run to unload some stuff, getting cluttered around here.
Everybody has moved on, pretty rare people stick with a vehicle, I still have the E350 I had when I made an account here, then many move on to other websites, many went to facebook, I been banned there till I'm sick of it.
