So, I’ve never really driven a truck w/o a bed liner and w/o a tonneau cover. My truck (for now) has neither. I’ve also only driven 5’ bed trucks, not the close to 7’ bed I currently have. While driving around with the back window open, it sounded almost like a blow dryer from the back of the truck the faster I drove. I’m assuming (hoping) it’s the aerodynamics of the truck hitting the empty bed and rushing around the cleats and tailgate. I also notice there are holes all around the sides of the truck bed; I’m guessing that would add to the noise.
I’m hoping that the next time I take it out (with my Dualiner installed) that it will quiet down. The tonneau is ordered but is a couple weeks out.
Thoughts? I was panicking for a second that maybe my pumpkin was empty, but the more I think about it that seems crazy. I hear nothing when driving under 30-35.
Only F150s with ‘P’ rated tires, short beds, never bare. I know this question is probably ridiculous; I had thought maybe my ventilated seats were malfunctioning b/c it kind of sounded like that when parked.
I know on the Detroit chassis line that makes the F53’s stripped chassis, there was a run of misfilled pumpkins that resulted in a nationwide stop sale for a lot of Class ‘A’ motorhomes and other things built on that chassis. This is the only reason it occurred to me that it might be more then wind.

If you are worried about the fluid level in the diffs and gear boxes it woulkd be best to crawl under and check them yourself, Especially since there are a few reports of them not being full from the factory.
I've driven trucks for 40 years. Some did and some did not have a back widow that opened. Some were long beds and some were short (6.5'). None of my trucks had P tires. some had be liners some did not. current truck has a tonneau cover and long bed. I have never experienced the noise, at the level OP has indicated. I have heard rear ends going bad and they don't sound like wind noise and you can hear the whine with all the widows up.. I am not trying to sound like an old, cantankerous old man (which I may be), but I wonder if the OP is overly sensitive to the noise.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Likely! I got my driver license in 1960, but have been “driving” trucks since I had to stand in the seat to see over the steering wheel! And they were trucks, not cars with a box on the back!
One thing I learned about sliding rear windows and open bed many years ago - they will create a swirl of air that sucks right into the cab. Found that out when I'd been on a construction job and some sawdust had settled in the bed of my truck. Started driving down the road and next thing I knew it was swirling all over the interior.
An open back window is a little too noisy for me so I never get them in a truck anymore.
I’ve had 3 F150s and I ALWAYS drove w/ the rear window open. I didn’t hear the wind roar/blow dryer type sound but I suspect after reading your guys responses it’s normal. I’ll put the dual liner on it as soon as the rain lets up and see if that helps a little. If all I’m hearing is the wind rushing over the longer bed, the tonneau should solve it.

Never had a ‘real’ truck before, bear with me !
F-!50's are definitely "real trucks" so there's no need to **** on them. A Honda Ridgeline on the other hand...
Agreed, F150 is a truck, but the size of the beds these days are hilariously short. Nothing wrong with them and they drive amazingly well. With that said, I've had both the F150 and F350, both with the rear sliding glass window. I haven't noticed a difference between the two when it comes to wind noise, but I also don't haul *** down the highway at 75mph with the rear window open.
If you're hearing what sounds like a hair dryer "whine" then I would certainly look deeper into it.
Wasn’t really a whine - it sounded almost like the ventilated seats sound when the truck is not moving at all. I’m guessing it’s the aerodynamics of the bigger vehicle, bigger emptier non lined bed, and no cover.
I suppose I’ll find out soon as address the liner and the cover.
Also, the sound wasn’t loud enough to overcome the radio; I noticed it when the radio was off and thought “Gosh that’s louder then the F150s ever were”.
The seat sound to me definitely just sounds like air moving / turbulence. If this is all you heard from the back window, then that sounds normal. It's about all I hear too, unless of course I have something in the bed shifting around, which is much louder with the rear window open.
