Frame

I have a 2018 250 Lariat 6.7 4x4 crew cab. I jacked up the rearend yesterday by using a floor jack under my receiver bar in my 2.5 hitch receiver to get my rear wheels off the ground (unload my suspension) to install my RAS. I has the rear wheels about 2 inches off the ground while I did the install. Truck is fine but I have been told I could have bent my frame with the upward pressure at the receiver hitch. I assumed the

receiver hitch would be a strong jack point. Was I wrong? Could I have damaged my frame ?? Thanks

I would say that you're fine. Towing with the max tongue weight and the up/down forces would be more that just lifting the rear.

Thanks for the reply…I’m not a mechanic and know nothing about the super duty except it will pull my camper better than my 150. Hoping to learn more from this page. Thanks again.

I would be highly skeptical of such a claim and wouldn't worry about it myself.

2 cents,
Dave

I've used the receiver on many trucks to lift the rear end if I needed the rear axle unloaded. Never bent or damaged a frame.

It would be more of a concern if you were overloading the receiver, or had a Toyota.

THANKS for the reply. I have been in panic mode after I was told I may have damaged the frame. This is my “last” truck and was sick at the thought I had damaged it.

You could pick the whole truck up by the receiver hitch and it would be absolutely fine.
Nothing to worry about.

That’s how I rotate my tires every time and I have a 9ft enclosed utility bed on it.
towmotor lifts up on the receiver hitch and a jack on the each front corner.

It's been pretty well established that the frame can handle it, but just for fun...some might remember this dramatic stunt Ford did to show off frame strength.

We've all got someone we know who offers up advice that we shouldn't heed 90% of the time.
