Hi everyone. I got a 1993 Ford f250 7.5 4wd XLT extended cab and long bed. I ride the truck maybe about only 500 miles a year or so. Im having an issue with a popping noise going over some bumps sometimes and while I turn my steering wheel to the ride. I replaced the whole tie rod and pitman arm set and the noise still continues. I can't quite remember if the noise was there before I replaced the tie rods or not. I recorded a video of the current ones I have installed. I regreased them just in case and made sure everything was tightened. The tie rod seem to rotate pretty hard making a slight bang sound. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or if this is the cause of the noise?
Check into the "huck" rivet popping issue that we techs fixed thousands of (TSB)
Used to get paid by the rivet and the big one at the rear of the steering gear is the Huck one they called it
A hole techs used to just weld the frame which was a bad no no
Did weld one myself still waiting to get sued for
I'm not sure why that particular Huck rivet is so big and robust
I have never heard of one getting as bad as the one mentioned in that post
Usually they just pop once in a while when turning back and forth, and after getting looser still, it will pop every time you turn the wheel back and forth.
We used to test for loose rivets with white out typewriter mistake stuff
Paint it on there, let it dry and drive the truck
When back from the test drive, check for broken white out paint around the rivets
in the video the korean guy posted illustrating the popping noise, all I see is the tie rod ends moving/popping when enough force is applied during turning motion. These are all held on with bolts/nuts...
