On my 1999 Mountaineer AWD V-8 i have a clicking/thumping noise when driving at a low speed like 20-40 mph, when going over bumps it makes no noise. When turning the wheel it makes no noise either but seem to feel it a little through the steering wheel but comes and goes. I replaced the front brakes & rotors, new lower ball joints, new stabalizer bar bushings and i cant think of what the heck it could be at this point. Im stunned and wanted to know if anyone would have some help with this probelm.
Just a guess, but it might be your inner tie rod ends. Mine had a creaking/popping noise that disappeared when I greased the passenger side inner end. I also had to replace the boot.
GDM1952, I removed the boot and pressed grease into the inner tie rod end using my fingers. The job requires some patience since there's not much room to work. I cut the boot bands with nippers, and used zip ties to secure the boot afterwards.
