You know the noise power steering makes when you turn it completly to the locks either way. Mine is starting to make that noise with any load/turning of the wheel.
I checked the power steering fluid level and even had my son turn it from lock to lock several times and it would not take anymore fluid.
my friend has that on his 150. he said it was the power steering gasket on the motor. im 99% sure thats what he said. he had it looked at by a mechanic or something
Hey I am on my 3rd pump and this one is as noisy as the other 2. My damm pump makes noise without turning the wheel and louder when you turn the wheel. My garage tells me it is the nature of a ford to do that. Didnt do it when i bought it but is ure as hell does now. Read in here should put a filter on anytime you work on pumps my mechanic said that is bull does not make a difference. It is just the nature of the pump.
I agree with Talyn. Check your manual to see if you are useing the right fluid. My 79 takes type F Tranny Fluid, instead of regular pwr steering fluid. You might also try flushing the entire system and reservicing.
Most Ford pumps will make noise. It has to do with the design of the cam pack inside. They don't bleed well. Sometimes you can get rid of the noise doing a vacuum bleed. This is done using a modified cap and a vacuum pump to remove every last bit of air from the system.
Cardone makes a pump for some Ford applications that is basically a GM pump with Ford brackets. It may offend some purists, but it's quiet.
