My 2017 F350 dually died Dealer claims shortage . Can anyone direct me to a dealer who might have one? This is a warranty claim, so have to get through a dealer. Thanks in advance.
This, unfortunately falls under the out of luck category.
Your dealer is correct, nobody has any engines available.
Place where my truck is being repaired has a truck in needing an engine, took three months to get one.
Not sure the number of failures has changed but the supply issues have made it way more visible. We were just talking in the office about getting trailer or hitch parts...sourcing stuff is just a lot more challenging.
getting new contracts for steel, aluminum, etc. Then those companies are getting from China, etc. The quality is a cheaper grade. Then they dont realize till it fails. Unfortunately, this will probably get even worse with time.
Sorry to hear your truck needs an engine.
Just to clarify-
you want someone to direct you to a dealer who may have a short block in stock, then you expect that dealer will either transport your truck to his location or ship his unobtainium short block to your dealer for a warranty replacement??
If I have that correct, I wish you luck.

I don’t think it’s a supply issue as NEW engines roll down the assembly line every day bolted into new trucks. The problem is FORD not wanting to properly fund the warranty side of business. It has to be hard loosing money on every EV vehicle & properly funding warranty claims.

Disagree. They are allocating a majority of parts to building new trucks and not to the supply system because they obviously want to continue that revenue stream that is already taxed to the limit. Do you ever recall hearing Ford say they were capped on Platinum and Limited production? Nope. They are now and there's a reason. If Ford could crank out unlimited top tier trucks, they would. Huge money in those trucks.
Is it to offset EV, maybe, but all of these manufacturers have huge investments in future builds? Denying or holding back on warranty claims has an impact on consumer confidence regardless of the EV end state. There is no replacement for the Super Duty on the horizon and the truck wars are brutal. It would be incredibly dangerous for Ford to gamble on not funding warranty claims in their most profitable segment. Brand loyalty only lasts so long if you start to cut back.
There's a genuine capacity issue going on globally and once you're behind the power curve, it's tough to catch up and get back to near-time inventory. Just look at purchasing rims (primarily an imported item). Years ago I could go online and buy anything and it's being shipped the next day. Go look at a site like Custom offset and see how many wheels are on backorder...hundreds of variations/brands. I waited three months for a particular set of Fuel rims for my Jeep. Nuts. Like it or not, we need China to return to pre-COVID production levels and then some....as well as other global partners. We're slowly going to recover but it's years out unless some miracle of productivity occurs.
