Help me out here guys..
rundown 1st .Someone gave me a 84 van conversion, it has a Motorcraft Holley 351 4bbl. And mech fuel pump and 2 fuel tanks. He said it ran when his mom stopped traveling. Was sitting for 7 years.
1.) I removed carburetor as it was full of rat s***. I made no changes I just cleaned everything and soaked it. Reinstalled
2.) Removed plugs added oil to the cylinders rotated crank installed new plugs.
3.) Installed new fuel filter.
4.) Changed the oil.
5.) Drained coolant added new coolant.
THEN ATTEMPTED TO START....
it would only sputter, and start to idle ONLY with fuel poured into carb.
So I checked the fuel filter it was DRY ? , NO fuel was being drawn forward
So I DISCONNECTED FUEL LINE and placed it into a jar of fuel and tried it, again... it would not draw fuel to the fuel pump only 24" away.
So I REPLACED THE MECH FUEL PUMP.
then tried to start it again, and the same thing..will NOT DRAW FUEL???
IM JUST Stumped...ANY IDEAS ...

As far as I'm aware..any mechanical fuel pump will draw fuel but that makes 2 that I had that don't ??? This is as far as my ability to diagnose this goes....If someone can gimmie a couple ideas ..thanks. there is no fuel..being drawn whatsoever?? It's not 2 bad pumps..I'm not even going to entertain the possibility..it must be sumpthin else

Thanks... I'm already almost $300 into a free vehicle towing it home and buying stuff for it figured it would be a fun little project it's not fun anymore 🤔😡

 

Pick a tank and run a line from it forward, you likely are having issues with the tank selector setup, that is a big problem with the dual tank vehicles, make it less complicated by just removing one.

 

Any pinhole in the line from the tank to the fuel pump will make the pump suck air and not push fluid (gasoline)
You can temporarily route around that ccrossover valve for testing
