Tire size

What would the radial tire size be to used as a spare in place of a 700x17 tire. I would be using a tube in it.

the size converts to 187/96/17 so find the closest match you can at your local tire shop.
it wont be the exact size but it will work good enough for a spare just for getting you home.

Are you asking to see if it will fit under your bed? You know radials are fatter.

You can't mix bias ply and radial tires like that. Maybe if you crawled along at 20 mph but they have very different characteristics, especially when braking. Or do you already have radials except for the spare?

The 1978 edition of the Tire and Rim Association Annual says a 7.00-17” has a diameter of 32.58”. The closest diameter match I find is a 235/85R17” at 32.7”. Stu

I was thinking I could use a radial as a spare in lieu of buying a new bias tire for $361 + tube + shipping but apparently that wont work so I will delete that plan. Thanks for your thoughts

You should be able to find a bias ply cheaper than that.

edit: I just read your original post. Maybe a 17" tire is more...

Yes I too was shocked as I’ve been shopping for tires. 17” are a lot harder to find than 16” therefore more expensive I guess.

I recently priced 2 Tornel 6:50X16 bias tires for $306.00 a piece. Tornel tires are made in Mexico, and I see some sizes and types of their tires selling for under $75.00. It's shocking and disappointing that the particular size and type of tire I wanted can command such a high price. I too abandoned any thought of a purchase. If I have $300 tires on my truck, I have to get some more wear out of them. LOL.

Im looking for a more aggressive tire. But it’s hard to find narrower than 7.0

According to the tire specs it's a trailer tire.

The Deestone D902 is a highway terrain, all season tire manufactured for trailers. This tire is NOT MEANT TO BE MOUNTED ON LIGHT TRUCKS, as its construction will not support the weight and performing style of such vehicles. It can ONLY BE MOUNTED ON TRAILERS.

Sorry, I didn’t catch that. I’m looking at these. https://www.prioritytire.com/deeston...BoC2Y0QAvD_BwE

I like the rugged look, and the price. It's cheaper than some radials I considered. I wonder how they will ride--8 ply is bound to be pretty stiff. At 29.1 inches tall, they would be a little shorter than my Tornel tires. Let us know how you like them if you decide to go in this direction.

Stock F-3 trucks with 17" tires would have 6 or 8 ply ratings. Larger trucks, larger tires, larger loads, larger ply ratings.
