My '75 Ford Truck Shop Manual sez...
"District codes: 75 Phoenix"
Could DSO stand for District Sales Office?
Is there another DSO number I'm missing?
On the build sheet maybe?

I will still state (again after several years on this thread) that the factory front limited slip differential is one of most rare options of any F series truck of any vintage. How many people on this site have a truck with a factory limited slip?? None of the other manufacturers offered a factory front limited slip ---or if they did-it was also rare!!

Could DSO stand for District Sales Office? In your (and most) cases, yes.
Is there another DSO number I'm missing? No.
On the build sheet maybe? Again, no.
Two digit DSO, your truck was not a Domestic Special Order.

If the vehicle does have a 6 digit DSO, It's a Domestic Special Order.
The first two digits refer to the District Sales Office, the last four digits is the order number for the special equipment installed.
Domestic Special Order:
Parts that are not RPO's (Regular Production Orders) for the particular vehicle, which includes special bodies, non standard wheels, special colors, different springs, P.T.O's, the list is endless, and the same DSO system is in use today.
The 6 digit DSO is necessary because how would a dealer be able to get the parts since they aren't listed in the catalogs for the particular vehicle?
The dealer contacts Ford, reads off the 6 digit DSO, Ford looks up the order number, tells the dealer what the parts are, and gives the dealer the part numbers if they are genuine Ford.
If the parts for the special equipment are not Genuine Ford, the dealer is told what company provided them, and where the parts can be located.
If there are special items on a vehicle that does not have a 6 digit DSO, the parts were installed by a dealer or the owner.

E9TZ15550A .. "Utility Light" / Obsolete / (E9TZ-15550-A replaced EOTZ-15550-A).
There are still about 20 of these in stock at US Ford dealers.
There was another that plugged into the cigarette lighter, and came with a 10' cord. Ford called this a "Trouble Light."
For every accessory that y'all seem to know about, there's prolly 100 that y'all have never even heard of.
The following are listed in the Ford Dealers Parts Department accessory catalogs.
Bug Screens, Hydraulic Jacks, Dual Air Horns, Seat Covers, Front/Rear Air Shocks, Front Coil Spring Air Bags, Clothes Rod (Super & Crew Cab), Compass, Cigarette Light/Lighter, Door Mounted (Vinyl) Storage Compartment, Litter Basket, Tool Kit, Fire Extinguisher, Emergency Reflector Kit, Tissue Dispenser, Vanity Mirror-clips to visor, Body Side Step (Stylesides), Splash Guards.
There's more, but y'all get the idea.
btw: Who said this thread is dead because everything had been brought up?
Did anyone mention the factory installed Marschal Driving Lights that were only available for 1974's?
How about the self contained Hand Held CB Radio & Antenna Kit?

Did the air horns have an electric or engine ran compressor?
Where did they put the tool kit and what was in it?
Where did they mount the Extinguisher and what size was it?
Bodyside step: Was that one of those that was like a half moon shape and bolted into a hole in front of the rear wheel?
Sorry for all the questions but this is the kinda stuf that I love about this site and these trucks

Block heater
I don't know if it's been posted before, as I read these threads along time ago and have just come back to them. If so, please excuse my repeat.
I bought a used 1974 F-100 Ranger XLT with a 390 auto in 1978. The engine had a plug in block heater on the engine block. I remember it looked factory, but I dunno for sure.It was sold new in Itasca Texas, so I figure it's unlikely that it was added by the previous owner. I always figured that it was installed on the assembly line when the engine was built.
Does anyone know definitively?

I have a 76 F150 4x4 ranger xlt with a limited slip front and rear differential. the numbers on the vin tag confirm it too. Also has xlt emblem on grill. as well as other options that I dont think are as rare? it also has what appears to be a light under the dash by shifter that I cant read, seems to be like what the lock light is for full time 4x4 but mine is part time. any ideas? with limited slips and stick shift, seems odd it would of at one time been full time.
