What the heck do you think I did? 35 years: 1962/97. I bought a 79 XLT Lariat new. I also bought 1965/68/71/88/92 and 2004 pickups new, and still have the 1965 F100. Not only was I a partsman all those years, but a car collector, car show judge, and NOS parts scrounger too.

Those tonneaus are pictured in the 73/79 parts catalog-body section 400. Go to hipoparts.com For 30 bucks you can buy a CD of the parts catalog. Then you can spend two hours (more likely two days for a novice) looking up all these parts.

Truck ordering and building was dependant on Region and FOMOCO.

Ford would build and send diferrent trucks of all kinds.

A Northland or Snowfighter special wouldn't be required in New Mexico or Arizona..... but moreso in NY,Ohio,Michigan,ND, Montana.

But a Lariat (a truck with a Western theme) would sell anywhere.

As I recall, it was $1000.00 back of dealer invoice (Standard Ford dealer employee discount then). I special ordered it, as I wanted certain equipment and the color. It took about 5 weeks to get (built in San Jose). It had a 400/C6, tilt and cruise, air, one of those quadrasonic radios (it never worked right), chrome rear step bumper...geez what else, it's been a while...it was white and yellow (it was parked outside and white didn't show the dirt as bad). I added an aftermarket seat cover, some other stuff-forget. I sold it to a friend (who promptly wrecked it) in 1988 when I bought a 1988 Lariat...big mistake. That '88 was less of a truck then I sold. The '92 wasn't much better...damn computers!

(I wasn't a manager then, but the price was the same for all employees).

EDIT: Thanks, Dennis...I had the sliding rear window too.

No scheiss Sherlock, don't need the links, just a better memory. Besides, spending 2 hours early this AM researching and typing all that stuff in post #322 fried what's left of my brain.

Dennis, for heavens sakes, it been almost 30 years, and I've owned over 300 cars/trucks. So sorry, my bad. It was a Ranger Lariat...I'll edit.

Actually it was quite rewarding, with two exceptions. The microfiche viewer is on t'other side of the room, and I wore a hole in the carpet traversing back and forth. Then there are the usual three obstacle courses. Every time I moved, the three Basset Hounds moved too! The viewer is next to the kitchen, where the dog treats are kept.

Dennis, mi amigo...I have 3 1973/79 parts catalogs, all different dates. That's was what I was refering to. I now have all the parts catalogs for cars: 1949/79. They come in handy, cuz Bronco parts are in the car parts catalogs 1965/72 & 1973/79. Bronco wasn't in the truck catalogs till 1980. The early 49/59 catalog covers the early (1957/59) Rancheros. I also have all the Packard & Studebaker parts catalogs from the 1920's thru 1966. I know how to use them too, because prior to 1962, I was a Studebaker/Packard partsman, and have owned 60 Packards and dozens of Studebaker Hawks.

More books: Every Automobile Quarterly from Vol I #1 to now. That's 177 and counting. Then there are roughly 1800 books on auto and related history. If I told you how many other books I have in this house, you wouldn't believe me, but it's close to 30,000. NO SCHEISS! Wanna know about Pueblo Pottery? How about the history of Cape Sable Island? Guns?...gotcha covered. World travel, Architecture, Ocean Liners. Jane's and Conways Naval ref books. Antiques, Film history. Old West history. Musical instruments. US Naval and Military history..what era would you like to know about? How about the history of the British Navy? btw >>> The Cutty Sark burned yesterday in Greenwich, England.

So, Dennis how many books did you say you have again?

I wasn't gloating.. I was trying to make... Funny.

Didn't work

I was on the Cutty Sark in 2000.

What a shame.

Good thing everything was out of it being restored or it could have been worse.

2000? I was on the Cutty Sark in 2000. You're prolly the chap I bumped into on deck. Was on the HMS Belfast also. Stayed in South Kensington.

Don't forget...Mind the Gap!

My apologies to fellow members, regarding all this sparing between two fussbudgets.

Let's see, a few more things (dealer, Ford Truck Accessories)...

Dealer A/C (yeah, not exactly rare, but getting harder to find).

Left hand remote control adjustable mirror #17696
Roof-Mounted Spotlight #15313

Free Running Automatic Locking Hubs #1104 I've got a set of these, they work better in theory... oh, made by Warn and optional on most IH Scouts which would be the easiest thing to find them on.

Pickup-Up box rails (8ft styleside only) #32230

Full floor mats #13086

Dual air horns #13800

Fire Extinguisher, either 2.5 lbs (like mine) or 5lbs #13800

Emergency Reflector Flare Kit #19E500

Tachometer 6000RPM (the one I have) or 9000RPM #17A326

Trailer Hitch, (3500lbs Class II) #19D520 & 2" ball # 19F503

Snow Plow #19E537, power angle kit #19F5012, light kit # 15312

Tonneau Cover (8ft styleside only) #501A42

Air Lift Kit (front coils) F100/F250 2WD or F100 4x4 #5A589

Splash Guards (i.e. mudflaps) #16A550

Coolant Recovery System (like mine) #8522

Transmission Oil Cooler- High Capacity (like mine) #7K177 also, Economy version #7K177

I'm curious if the dealer installed P/S or P/B was the same as factory or slightly different. This is out of my 1973 Ford Truck Accessories brochure. I need to dig out the 74-79 ones to see what else they had...

Alot of this stuff has already been documented (listed) here, but I had basic part numbers, so there you go.

I have a set of dual horns somewhere. They were standard when ordered with the Camper Special package. One high pitch, one standard.

I've also got a factory trans cooler. Not sure which one. It only has two coils.

I think that Ford offered a FRONT limited slip differential in their 4x4s back in 73 to 79--didnt they?? And if so--it had to be a very rare factory option . I have never seen a front factory limited slip differential in a 4x4 Ford truck.
