97 f350 7.3. Developed an issue where trans doesn’t want to shift from 2nd to 3rd. Have to let rpm’s get really high and then let off fuel to get it to shift into 3rd. I have a John woods accumulater body less than 1 year old. Ats 5 star TC about 2 yrs. Fluids were low but have got to level and issue persists. Cts3 shows temps are good. This happened after some harsh off-roads. Speedo good so don’t think vss is issue but idk. I’m diy mechanic but gotta learn as I go. I’m leaning towards main valve body likely stuck 2-3 valve or solenoids but honestly don’t know much about trannys. Side note I did just install both the cts3 and a hydra with jelibuilt tunes along with new adrenaline HPOP and 160 injectors. New icp and cleaned ipr with new o rings. New egr sensor and tube soon as I’m also fighting a hard first start issue and trying to eliminate possible problem. Mention tuning and cts in case it matters with tranny issue being as some weird issues tied to shifting. IE my taillight was out but wasn’t the problem.
Appreciate any advice as I’m either opening it up to clean main valve body ??? Or taking in to tranny shop. Thanks.

The first thing to do is to read the codes. The places that read codes free cannot read Ford transmission codes. A good independent shop or a Ford dealer can read them. Or you can download Forscan free at www.forscan.org and read them yourself.

I think my cts3 is supposed to read codes also. I’ll check that out today or look in to an obd2 adapter to use forscan.
I have had the hydra tuner with jeli tunes and cts3 insight for a few weeks now without any issues. Trans problem started after off-road portion of a long drive. I figured it’s possible something got jarred loose and is causing the issue. Possible it’s the chip so I will try unplugging it and separately the cts3 too in case they are messing with comp.
I used to have a very harsh 2-3 shift that I got used the timing of and could let off fuel and it would ease into 3. I put in a j woods valve body and it completely went away. Idk if that adds any thought to possibilities of this issue too.
Color still looked bright and no odor. Highway portion of drive was at 85mph for 375 miles each way. Was separated by few days. Trans temp never exceeded 145. I have deep pan and mishimoto cooler so stays pretty cool.
ill get on those codes soon. Thanks for the thoughts all.
I’m a little confused on valve bodies. I replaced my accumulater valve body with a John woods one. Trying to research my issue and looks like there is also a main valve body in addition to accumulater body. Is that correct?
not seeing anything that relates to tranny that I’m aware of.
I don't know that your tool will actually read transmission codes. Many readers will read engine codes, but not transmission codes.
