My 1999 Navigator door locks seem to be haunted; they began to cycle weakly toward the unlock position recently. The unlock effort isn't enough to actually unlock the doors. They "buzzed" at one second intervals until I pulled the fuse, manual lock operation is normal. I suspect a failed "all unlock" door lock relay which is supposed to be mounted in a lock relay block behind the passenger instrument panel. If anyone has any experience accessing/replacing any of the 3 relays in that block I'd like to hear from you
I had to replace the passenger side door lock actuator on my 98 Navi because it was making an annoying noise. When I locked the door, it buzzed for about a second afterwards.
The problem affects all locks; this makes me suspect a component common to all such as the all unlock relay. The area behind the passenger side instrument panel is densely populated and difficult to inspect visually. My intent (once I'm able to locate the lock relay block) is to swap the relays around. Apparently the three relays in the block are identical, and some combination of swapping relays and checking the relays with an ohm meter will reveal the fault if it is a bad relay.
I am having a very similar problem on my 97 expy. Have had since new and starting to get these wierd electronic problems. Door locks appear to be possesed until you remove fuse. So the relay would be located were on the passenger side? Behind glove box area? Need help.
Also Right side directional flashes incredibly fast, left side seems to be normal, any ideas?
I haven't gotten the locks fixed yet. I have a subscription to AllData DIY and their wiring diagram locates the lock relay block behind the glove box area/right side of instrument panel. Their diagram is not exactly "high fidelity" and they don't detail exactly how to access the lock relay block. Peering into the area with a flashlight has been fruitless to date, although schedule constraints have limited my efforts to only one brief scrutiny. Removing the entire dash assembly is a rather complicated process. I'll post the results when I have more time.
