I want to test fire my engine to watch oil come out of my injectors before buttoning everything up. It would be easier to just run it a couple minutes at idle without the up and down pipes installed.
Is that ok?
You can run a diesel engine without intake or exhaust manifolds if you want to. Their basic design is 100% air all of the time and only inject enough fuel to get the job done for whatever load requests are made to the injection system. Way different than a gas engine that chokes down the intake to a vacuum and meters out the fuel/air ratio to the engine in measured amounts according to demand.
Oh that is interesting. I didn’t know that.
Im not as knowledgeable on diesels.
And never had a turbo before either.
(i should be smarter, as i have a little 2 cyl diesel on me boat)
Suck up things? Like the plastic baggies i forgot to remove? Lol. I caught it in time.
Im in Az and you have to protect against fine grit that blows around. But It wasn’t really that noisy. Kinda more like normal.
Anyway they all spit oil except one. #5. This alarmed me. My old friend anxiety came to visit until i noticed #5 connector slipped loose.
Which brings up my next questions.
those connections under the valve cover seem awful loose for a vibrating motor.
Q: is there some way to pinch those little metal locking arms so they grip better?
