Intake Opinions...

I have it narrowed down to either a Air Force One on the expensive side... or a Mac for the super cheap route. I'm not sure if i wanna go cheap or not... im thinking it would be worth it to save up a little more for the AF1.

Has anyone heard anything good or bad about those. Any suggestions about anything would be a big help. My birthday is on the 30th and i expect to get something for my truck for then (I love still being young).

Thanks,
Beau

I'd have to actually try them out. I'd go with the mac though. It's supposed to get you 12.1 hp's. That's pretty good for an intake. I actually haven't looked into the Air Force one.

Do you have a link for the AF1 so I can take a peep?

I personally like Volant. Its going to be more expensive, but I think they claim 14 HP. Hell If I know if thats what I get out of it, I put on so many mods at one time, I noticed a giant change at one time. Speaking of Intakes, I have a question for you all:

Should I leave the TB Spacer on after the SC is installed?

I still like the aggressive growl my volant gives too.

Can you leave it on? I guess you could seeing how it's just a spacer. I would if you can. What can it hurt right?

I'll have a MAC by that time...hopefully. The spacer is the same size as your intake isn't it? It has to be. It should be a direct bolt up just like your Volant is now. At least that's what I'd think.

Right, but the intake, I think, is fabricated. So the extra 2-3 inches might throw it off. The TB Spacer does not go directly to the intake. It actually spaces the inlet of the TB and the intake arm. Qwerkie I know.

AF1 intakes are supposed to get you 18 hp. They cost 220 bucks though.... oh well, i think it would be worth it. All stainless steel...mmmm

Bean,

VOlant makes the same claim, 18 HP. I just liked the blue filter. Also, remember, just cause they say up to 18 with AF1, doesnt meant up to 18 HP with your 4.2.

Check this out:
http://www.volantperformance.com/Pro...9642/29642.htm

Like I said, once the SC is installed, I will have no need for it. If anyone is interested in it, please contact me.

I gotta admit, I like the way the Volant looks. Hmm, 18 hp's sounds really high for an intake. Between 10 and 15 is pretty good. Of course I'm talking about the 4.2 not a V8. Also, it would depend on what kind of hp your talking. Rear Wheel or Engine HP (at the flywheel) The MAC is dyno proven for a 4.2 to get around 12.1 rwhp which is what really counts. I have no clue what the others are supposed to get you. Probably about the same or more.

I would imagine the same. How different are the tubes? I cant tell a difference other than material used. The all look exactly the same to me. So then is it the filter? I dont know much about it...but I know I like mine.

The tubes look exactly the same to me. I would think it came down to the filter also. A bigger filter that works better is going to make the difference IMO. I just like the MAC because it's all chromed out and crap. The Volant is tight because it has that Blue filter. Anyhoot, what have you decided Beau?

I dont get that..I would think the bigger tube would make the differece. IE if you go from big (diameter) to small, you have mroe pressure. So in essence, you could force more air in if you had a fatter tube. So unless theres some kind of space aage material these filters are made from (volant looks identical to a k&n, and everyone else) aside from the paper ones....I dunno.

Bean, my Airaid is awsome. Take a look at my photo gallery. I get no rubbing whatsoever, none at all, so I don't know what the heck they're talking about, and it took me 20 minutes to install it.

Hey, tube size? Come on, you can have a 20" diameter tube, the air still has to squeeze through your mass flow air sensor, which is much small than the tube itself anyway.

Personally though, I was really going to get the Volant. The tubing is just so smooth and the blue filter matches with Ford colors, but they were out of stock and I needed the intake for my Nitrous system that I was finishing installing and wanted to run everything at the track on Friday night.

Just get what you like, there's really not much difference, whatever you think would look nicest under your hood with the looks your aiming for.

If it were up to Garrett, he would buy one with tri-axle speakers installed in it so he can have tunes under the hood while wrenching on his motor!!!
