I’m in need of replacing the exhaust on my 2017 F250 6.2 liter. While I could replace it with stock, why not spend a little extra and replace it with something that sounds just a little bit better?
What have y’all done to replace the stock exhaust? I’d be looking for something just a little more throaty than stock. I want it to sound nice but not regret my life on a long trip.
I posted this back in early 2020. Now that I’ve had it for 3 years with a lot of towing and since you mentioned noise on long trips I wouldn’t recommend it. It has worn in and it’s pretty loud and it drones climbing mountains with a 10,000 lb trailer. Sounds great and it rocks but it’s still a bit too loud. I was going to go with the Borla but at the time I didn’t have the money for it. People on this forum have mentioned the Borla is perfect. Others chimed in with their thoughts and opinions also so this is a start for you.

I had a Gibson cat-back on my '19 6.2 and it sounded good. At idle, it was a slight change in tone, I don't think it was any louder. Cruising, it was the same, slight change in tone, maybe a tad louder but most people wouldn't notice. If you really stepped on it, that's when you could tell it was aftermarket. It'd make more shouty noises better than the stock exhaust. The Gibson kit I bought is the quietest they sell and I bought the stainless steel version. I don't have the truck anymore so no long term review.

Thanks for the input. I'll have a look at that thread. It actually broke while on vacation pulling a 8,000 pound trailer and the sound wasn't bad at all. If I could replace it with something similar in sound I think id be happy.
Unbolt the clamp in front of the stock muffler. Remove muffler and tailpipe. Done. Sounds pretty good, and it's free!
This is kinda what is going on right now. I was just looking at the exhaust diagram and it busted right at the intermediate pipe. So the center muffler and intermediate pipe are still working as they should I just lost the rear muffler and the rest of the tail pipe. I actually like the way it sounds right now but I would need to connect it back into the tail pipe. It's busted right under the rear passenger seat and my daughter said the noise and vibration was a bit much after a while. I'd assume if I reconnect the tailpipe the sound wont be right there and will be pushed to the back of the truck.

I'll have to check Gibson out. Sounds pretty close to what I'd be looking for. Just a little louder but nothing crazy for long drives pulling the travel trailer. The engine screams enough I don't need to add in more noise than necessary.
OP needs a set of american racing headers. Pricey but pretty! I too would like my truck to sound a little healthier, deeper rumble, but I'm afraid of getting the dreaded drone on the highway.

Yes!!!! That’s my exact worry is a bad drone on the highway. The truck is my daily driver for the most part. I’ll put 15,000 miles a year on it with a decent amount at highway speeds and I don’t need to be annoyed with the drone.
My last set of tires where the wrangler Duratrac tires and after 25,000 miles on them a regretted that purchase due to the road noise.
You should probably call around to some exhaust shops and find a stock system. If you want a little noise take off the rear resonator and put an air intake on it? A basic air intake just has a hole in the upper lid.
Thinking out loud here because I don't know anything really about exhaust and going with the their are no stupid questions theory...
Would I gain any sound by cutting out the intermediate pipe (what ford calls it but it seems more like it's a resonator) and putting in an after market resonator from say MBRP? It busted right at the intermediate pipe anyways so even if a replaced with stock it's almost the same price and amount of work.

Not if you still have the stock muffler on there. If they are the same price, I'd go aftermarket, but don't expect anything other than a new part out of the deal.
