Hi my 00 excursion limited with the heater for the leather seats has a problem. The drivers side seat started to get really hot when turned on & now it has quit all together. Any ideas??
thanks!
I have the samething here...2000 X with no driver's side heat. If I push the button it lights but no heat. I just got a factory manual on CD and it has some very detailed troubleshooting steps on the seat heater system. I'm planning going thru the steps this weekend. I'll post with what I find.
In short there are 4 main components to the system...switch, heat module, temp sensor and the heat element. I'd check all the connections first including the ground. The fuse should be good if the pass is working. If the button lights on the drivers and you still have no heat try taking the module off of the pass and trying it on the drivers. It should be right in the front of the seat and says "bosch" on it. If that works you know you need a module...about $85. If it doesn't then you have to start ohm'ing out pins...thats where you need the service manual.
also..from what i hear it's not uncommon for the element to go bad. I don't know yet however how hard it is to replace the elements.
I think my light does not come on. Did the heat on the seat start to get really high before it wnet ouot? I will see about the light & check the module this weekend.
I'm experiencing the same problem in my 99 Expy EB. The light comes on and the nothin'. I have ordered the controller from ford and will be putting it in this weeked. Since both elements are not heating up, I deducted that this must be the reason. I will know more later. I will post pics to show where it is located too. I understand it is tricky to get to if you don't know where it is. I spoke to the guy at the dealer that handles all the repairs of interiors and he gave me a few pointers.
Just Had The Same Problem With My Drivers Side Seat. After Checking Fuses And Connections, The Dealership Advised That The Heating Element Had Gone Bad. They Replaced And All Is Good.
I've priced the cushions through a dealer here and we're talking 200 a piece. But I just remember: "If momma ain't happy, Ain't nobody happy", so I am hoping the controller unit is the problem.
I just bought a 2001 and the drivers side does not work. The dealership said they would fix it for their cost, which they told me worst case scenario was $150, which means they are making some good money off these parts if they're really around $300. Hope mines not too serious.
last I looked, the entire kit for a Navigator seat was going for $250-ish at most wreckers. This is particularly cool since these are the peltier-junction heated _and_ cooled seats.
I ended up replacing both seat cushions and elements on the drivers side. It was fried in both the lumbar and bucket. There is a controller box that may go out, but like I said earlier, this is very rare. The replacement took about 4 hours with two crippled hands. I would have been able to do it in 1/2 the time a year ago though. Very straight forward though. If you have ?'s drop me a note and I will give you some tips.
Hey gang, I have the same problem 2000 X passenger side works so I switched the BOSCH units around and still only passenger works. I checked the fuse relay under the hood number 107 I think and it looks fine . WHATNOW???????????Thanks
