I finally found a decent enough option for mounting additional speakers. I stumbled upon member RPSM’s build thread, he’d built and installed a speaker enclosure behind the seat, on top the tank. It looked interesting to me, and doesn’t alter the vehicle, except for three sheetmetal screws in the metal lip below the rear cab window. I didn’t want anything that couldn’t be undone. This is the thread, posts 74-76 : https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...project-5.html
I contacted him, he’s a tin-knocker and has his own company. He graciously built a box for me, and I just copied what he’d done, using an inexpensive set of speakers. The enclosure and speakers extend into the hollowed out portion of the seat back. Sounds good to me, much better than just the RetroSound dash speaker. Finished and ready to go. Sound deadener to muffle rattles, and isolate sheet metal box from contacting fuel tank and cab. Installed
Thanks to member RPSM ( Jordan) for the idea, and the enclosure. I know as a contractor, he’s busy. I said he ought to consider teaching one of his guys to make and sell these on the side, and he said it might make a nice side job for his sixteen year old son. I agree.
thats a good idea... no cutting the door panels... my truck is radio delete but i intend on hiding a bluetooth radio in a backpack radio pac..
One of the first things I did when I got my slick was removed the original door panels, wrap them up and stash them, and make some wood panels to replace them and mount speakers in. Got a 6X9 and a 4.5" round in each door.
Of course later I found a pair of map pocket door panels so the speakers came out and I have a Bluetooth speaker on the dashboard lol.
Going to remember this post if I ever put a head unit in it.
