Does anybody know where I can find a set of headers to fit a 1972 F-100 shortbed, 351W, C-6, 4bbl. This is my first ford truck and I love working on it. I plan on doing a total restoration sometime in the future. Truck runs great, just want to improve performance without alot of expense at this time. Thanks for the help!!!!!
No one makes a set of headers to fit your application perfectly but they can be altered to work. The 351W didn't come from the factory in the 67-72 trucks so it is not a simple bolt-on job; do a forum search as a few of us have done this swap and with alittle patience they can be made to work. My 69 F-100 ranger with 351W (stroked to 393) has a set of Hooker Super Comps which are for 67-79 302 trucks.
Don't hold me to this but I was told that all v-8 truck exhaust manifolds where the same. If that is true then any shorty will bolt right into place if not with minor modifications. Again I can't be certain but that is my understanding. If the above is true then any 5.0/5.8 shorty will work with minor modification at worst, if any modifictions at all. I put 302 efi shorty headers on a carbed 351 truck no problems what so ever, bolted down and went. Later

No, the truck V8's had different exhaust manifolds.
The 302 and 351W are basically the same, as far as exhaust manifolds go. The Cleveland and M blocks share the same manifold, the 429/460 blocks have a different one and so do the FE's.
Yeah I wasn't directing the all v-8 statement outside the windsor group, I was referring to 302/351 as being the same. So I should have been more specific, thanks for catching that Mattsbox99, I could have misled someone. later
Even alot of shorties won't fit due to hitting the power steering gear. I had a set of nice JBA's I got in trade and they would'nt fit.
I'm still looking. I think the next set I try will be a set of tri-y's set up for an early Mustang. Seems like they would be easy to bend to get them too fit.

Thanks for the info, but it seems more confusing than ever. I've looked in most header manufacturers websites and catalogs and really haven't seen any headers specifically for my application. Hedman shows some for a 351w in a 69 - 80 vans, Are van frames the sames specs as F-100 frames What about clearances for power steering boxes and why do some makers say their units won't fit C-6 trans.
You won't find any headers for your application. The 351W did not come stock in the 67-72 truck series and is not a popular enouge swap over for the header manufacturers to make a header that will fit. Therefore all you can do is find a header that is close and make it fir using a hammer or torch. Some 302 headers come close but still hit at different areas since the 351w is wider and taller than the 302.
Maybe if enough people call a certain header maker and complain about us 351w people not having a header they will make one.
I've thought about the early van applications myself but don't know if they would fit

I put unequal length big tube shorties for a 5.0 Mustang on my '66 F100 with a 351w. I only had to slightly dink 1 tube that was near the steering box. The P/S box is a swap from a '75 F100, a manual box probably would require no dinking. I was not looking for all out performance, just an easily available, decently priced way to have headers for a daily driver. Chopped off the flanges from my unused 5.0 cat H-pipe to give the exhaust guys something to build from. Leak free and works great!
I would definatly get dimensions for a set of mustang headers (93 to ?? with the 302), as they are probably going to be the closest to being able to fit.
Thanks forthe info. Not trying to do anything special with truck reight now. Mainly using it around here for hauling. Runs great just trying to get more out of it until I do a complete resto.
